Bad day at the office

So the sun's shining, no plans all day. Think i'll fit the new mono leafs on the rear. Adam reckoned an hour each side, i reckoned on three.
Two and a half hours later and i've got one side off.
Damage so far, 3 out 4 front spring hanger nuts sheared on removal, not sure how to get remnants out yet.
Took 1 hour to remove two of 4 spring hanger nuts, having to constantly cool tools and nuts, wind up and down threads until loose.
Rear spring hanger, both nuts sheared off
Rear spring hanger bracket, 1 of 2 nuts sheared off. No idea on how to remove sheared remnants as yet.
Only good news. I had a spare spring hanger from Dunc sat in the box for 3 years, at least i'll need it now.

No fun is it?

I Always cut the U bolt threads back 3 or 4 threads from the nut before attempting removal.

Latil,thats the least of it. Currently, i cannot drive out the old spring hanger from the brackets. At trhis ratei'm going to have to have some brackets made up. Crazy

Not undoing Kev, I need to drive the old rear spring hanger out of its bracket. Its welded itself to the bushes. I reckon a
i'll chuck it into the barby tonight and burn the bugger out!
Meantime, small victory as i managed to get the front eye bolt out without drama.

Clockwise tighten, AntiClockwise untighten!

Unless it's the Suregrip or one side of the car's wheel nuts!

(Or the screw that holds the chuck onto your battery drill!)

Come on fellas, you know these can be a PITA if not touched for donkeys

Those bolts will knock out the front hanger , same as wheel studs , no probs .

i undid 'em, they snapped! Just the way it goes . As Adam sez, this car has not been maintained by a car loving purist for the past three decades. To be fair, out of all of the jobs i've done, this has been the the biggest PITA.Well, since the last one

Until you remove the last nut/bolt/screw of your own car and replace them with correct torque/fastener/glue there will always be PITA bits!

thats for sure Kev, I undid the other side today and the rear hanger and brackets all came of sweetly, cos I replaced them 3 years back.
Even better, no shearings on the front brackets today.

Can't wait to get the job finished. I gave the car a near full throttle start the other day, hooning around. Car moved about 3 yards and just fried the hides, smoke everywhere. Hope the mono leafs will help a bit with the lack of traction.
