Condensation

Post by BUDGIE »

Why am I getting condensation vapor coming out of only one tail pipe :?

There is a balance pipe in the system

The exhaust gases are cool on the no vapor side compared to them being hot on the vapor side.

No head gasket problems.

Firing on all 8 pots, although seems to be running very cool :?

Not had that before - does it clear from both when warmed up?

It does get less the more it warms up, but there is a definite difference between the two. The whole off side system seems to be cooler :?

I looked at that today.....had all the plugs out and no big surprise they where all sooted. The trouble is it's running twin 4s and a big cam, so the idle is a pig to get right.......BTW only the off-side screws made any noticeable difference :?

I don't think there is a stat in there so adding one tomorrow, she is running to cool right now which isn't helping matters :?

Here's a funny thing/coincidence :? ......I followed Jim's Hemi Cuda at the Nat's and noticed the nearside exhaust smoking quite bad, the offside was clean......a Hemi thing :?

Not had this with other Hemi's :?

Seems like yer running on the mains & not the idle circuit/s ,back the throttle blades down & tune from there...........or drop some cod liver oil tablets in there. :D ;)

Can't see what difference that would make anyways Adam ( to rich :?) ........will start from scratch tomorrow ;)

:? :?

If the motor won't respond to changes in mixture adjustments then it's running on the mains (driping from boosters) , might be talkin complete BS though , worth a looksie.

Take it you mean steam son?
Check your coolant with a head gasket tester.

need a theromostat to get the cooling system working correctly

only works if both flow and pressure are correct and that can only be achieved with the correct stat and housing.

at the mo pressure will be achieved eventually but in the wrong way due to lack of restriction at the thermostat. i.e the flow will be too great and the pressure will be achieved by some areas getting very very hot and others being far too cool. the flow needs to be slower to achieve uniformity in cooling. it will cool better at the hot bits and worse at the very cold bits once the system is complete, which is what you want. at the mo you will have poor combustion if some bit are too cool and massive heat soak from very hot bits on switch off. nothing will be expanding and contracting as designed because the cooling system is incomplete.

lack of a thermostat always shows cooler running but its a false reading due to the lack of uniformity in cooling efficiency across the motor. may as well just tape the needle on the temp guage to the place you want.

think the stats came in two ranges (aussie ones do) (home use and UK JP export). for the UK the hot one would be the go as it doesn't get much over 70 F ambient temp

then set ya carb up at operating temp.
