Firm Feel steering feedback

Post by RobTwin »

Anyone had any experience of dealing with Firm Feel Inc?

http://www.firmfeel.com/powerst.htm

We're looking into the option of getting our Satellite's power steering box rebuilt by them - not sure if the gains are worth the effort?

What are they like to deal with?

The benefits prob wont be realised until we get the rest of the steering/ suspension rebuilt (where necessary) with new bushes etc - hasnt been done for about 20 years  , so will be looking at a PST kit or similar too..... :working:

I have dealt with them a couple of times.

Had one of their power steering boxes (which still didn't feel "firm" enough for me) and I currently run one of their 20:1 fast ratio manual steering boxes (which I love) and which I believe are no longer available?

I had to supply a core for the manual box. Found one in the US and got the owner to send it to them. Saved me a little money that way.

they have a good rep, as do Steer 'n Gear, who are a little cheaper. Also I believe FF have a delay in supplying boxes at the moment...but that could be confirmed by them if necessary.

Biggest q will be what Stage do you go with? Dave what did you get?

I am going to get a rebuilt box as well, probably from S&G or poss FF, let us know if you decide to go ahead, might be some savings?
$:£ is a bit duff at the moment tho

I bought one which is currently in the Pit seem to work fine.
Be care full which Pittman arm you choose as some foul the headers /exhaust or pan.
Paid by card no core and delivery was prompt :thumbright:

yeah got my box from them , good guys to deal with , they have or had a shortage with the early boxes & will only send the later box which needs the larger spilne pitman arm overseas ... as they are not getting a core back ..

Looking into getting a box in the States sent to Firm Feel as a core. Still not cheap tho, theyre big old lumps

Not too sure about which stage to go for either Gav, had assumed Stage 1 would be ok but not sure now :-k

Will look into Steer'n'Gear too Gav :thumbright:

Stage 2 & don't forget the pitman arm , if you have the early box with the small splines it won't fit the new box , as was said. :D

fit the internals from a standard aussie manual to your US 24:1 manual and you get 20:1 ratio steering. box internals are the same box externals are obviously not not sure on pitman arm size and you may have to grind a new master spline into your pitman arm or off the box sector shaft...works though just don't have full details.

the aussies want to get rid of their 20:1 and go for 16:1

achievable using bits of aussie ford power steering box i belive but the guy who invented the swap isn't telling how. something to do with macthing the sector to the ford ballnut and using a different set of balls. sounds dodgy.
