Knowing full well that my wife is going into hospital on Sunday to have our baby induced, my kind hearted employers made me redundant yesterday.
Bless them. Just two weeks ago I took out a loan to consolidate a few debts and leave a bit of spare money to help finish the Barracuda, got employment cover built in "just in case", doesn't kick in if you're made redundant within 30 days, they say. Shouldn't be a problem, says I. D'oh!
So now, not covered, fighting the 2 million for a job. Figure I can keep the house as unemployed for about three months if we don't eat.
Happy days.
I know, I know, nobody wants to be depressed or gives a toss, but it feels better getting it out.
your wrong stu most will give a toss thats a real bummer, hope you can sort somethin, at least you will be able to help the wife more with the baby keep keepin on mate

Cheers Dunc. Afraid I might be a bit longer getting your spare zorst manifolds back to you, it's a long walk is that! If anyone buys them in the meantime thugh, they're in safe storage to be sent out from Shropshire...
(Might have to bring 'em to a show if that's ok, Mate?)
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…
That's pretty Bananarama! Stu, couldn't have come at a worse time for you.....not that there ever is a good time to lose a job. Hope you can keep, it together till something comes along.....good luck
I think I would be having a word with your employer to see if they could "forward date" your redundancy, even if they don't pay you so that the insurance kicks in; I am sure they owe you that much.
Pete
Exactly what I was going to say Pete, wouldn't hurt them would it.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. If anyone is really, really stuck for work. There is always Off-Shore as a Roust-About. You get treated like a dog and the money is Pish (You'll make about £20k a year last I heard) as a contractor. You'll have no set yearly contract and could get laid off any time but its a regular wage and has to be better then going on the Dole.
I'm away weekend Andy but i will PM you Monday about that, sounds no worse than my last job i take it you get the digs for free?they don't take food accommodation out of your wage do they?. 20k berfore or after tax?
Hey Tony, yes the Digs are free and its all you can eat too! That will be £20k before tax Im afraid. But if you stick in you'll stand out soon enough and be offered a rotation. Ie 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, or three weeks on/ three weeks off. And if your really lucky you'll get one of the new contracts offering 2 weeks off-shore 3 weeks at home! Eitherway your working 6 months outta the year max!
If you get a job on a Semi-Submersible or a Jack-up Rig you basically follow it around the sea where ever the work is. So lads end up in some very nice locations around the world. (and also some dumps too!)
Drop me a PM whenever your ready and I'll help you out as best I can with Names, Email Addresses etc. I'm on holiday as of tomorrow so I may not be checking my mail everyday but I'll be on once in a while minimum!
