Well, there is no doubt you could get it chromed as well over here as you could in the US. The question is how much will it cost?
You could get it done here for a lot less than the £450 you've seen, although it depends on the 'show quality' description.
If you aren't paying then you could go somewhere like The London Chroming Company who I understand charge a lot but are good quality. So you could insist on it being perfect. Or try somewhere like where I've gone, and stress you want it to be perfect and will pay extra if necessary - still be cheaper than your US option. If you get it in the UK you have got some comeback.
Having said all of that, do you want to deliver parts, pick them up etc? If it's insurance then just picking up the phone and buying one is not a bad option. Personally if I did get one from the US I'd want to get it from somewhere on personal recommendation, they have good and bad just like us.
