Thanks Gareth, well you never know, haven't been attending at all really, only just got the interest back a bit after going to F&Benny's last month and seeing those Mopar's. Lost touch with everyone, none of my mates are really into it so driving out on your jack makes it a bit dull, I'll try and persuade my mate to take a trip out, he was into cars.....Les

Maybe you're right on the condition but the paint scheme looked better, the stripes ruined it for me.
I believe it's a very light car and the guy was building it to be a street car.
He said Chriss Isaacs did the chassis.

i had it off ash bare no paint to speak off, fitted a stout 440 made some headers and sold it to a mate he had it painted black put the stripes on it within a week of the paint and the decals within a week of that and no one outside of crewe ever saw it, he then sold it to the boys you see with it at the track, and not bein picky with you mick..

was going to post up the spec of the '69 if anyone thinks it may help in anyway as to what was acheiveable 20yrs ago. I guess monies a lot tighter now and parts a lot more expensive but a lot more available, maybe you don't need that stroker kit or mega pair of heads to acheive your goals?... let us know if anyone thinks it may help in keeping costs down, although I know you guys are very knowledgeable and up to date....Les

ok well here goes then, hope it gives a few ideas/savings, keep it short
Car..1969 Cuda, Race spec
Engine:
440 6-pack, std bottom end, rod weight 2lb ea, std pistons 10.5:1, 1100gms ea., internally balanced, and weight matched.
Camshaft, Comp Cams Flat tappet, .650 lift
Heads, 906 Ported, 2.14 inlet/1.81 exh., HS Roller Rockers, triple springs with small spring taken out, all set up to exact length.
Oiling, single external line Milodon, deep sump.
Induction, Team G Race, +2" spacer+N20 plate, high as I could get it. 850dp Holley used on the 340, 50cc front pump, 80fr jets/86 rear, no.31 extended shooters,
2/14" Fenderwells with 12" extensions.
Transmission:
727, Full Manual, std pattern, 8" 4200 Converter. Mr G. Shifter
Ignition:- Accel electronic with std MSD6A, NGK 7's, 38 deg total all in at 3000rpm
N20- Cheater Big Shot plate kit, 2 x Holley Race pumps, 2 x 1/2" fuel lines, seperate pump for fuel for N20. simple on/off arming switch, 15lb UK bottle, microswitch set for max hit on WOT.
Chassis:-
2x3 rear rails, std 8 3/4", narrowed 2" per side, Strange 33 spline shafts, strange spool, 4.88 richmond gears, Coil overs/ladder Bars, loop and balanced prop with long u-bolts. 12x15 wheels, Tyres, 14x32 Hoosier's at 4-5psi.
Car weight with me approx 2900lbs....wasn't light
Best on motor 10.71 @ 126 I think, could've got it to mid to lowish tens with a bit of fiddling.
Best with N20 175hp shot...9.96 @ 133.90 at a trap rpm of 7600!!!!.tooo much.
There you have it, hope thats not been too boring, reckon with a drop to 4.56 or 4.30's and maybe a slightly tighter converter, I could've gone mid 9's and with the 250 shot yet to come, well...?
Car ran sweet with this set up, ticked over like a stocker, never tipped a plug with N20 and very low maintenance.
So nothing too fancy, the only chrome bit on the car was the r/covers, and that was only cos of the height needed for the roller rockers.
Hope this helps a little, if any? for your future or present builds. The car cost me a bit under £9k total inc buying it for 3k and spending 3k on an ex Dinger engine which I only got the heads and rocker gear out of after it blew

Apart from the N20, the biggest gain were the Heads, about 80hp worth, I remember running the small 125hp N20 a couple of times and managed a 10.21 which was more suited to the 4.88's and 32's rpm wise, just didn't have the time to fiddle about with it all for a 9, but reckon I could've got there.Jon Connolly wrote:Nice one Les

That last 9 sec run with 175hp took me by suprise some, never forget it...
it was a case of launch and shift 2nd almost at the same time as I watched the Tach needle go way past 7000rpm !!!!, thats why it goes left a bit in the vid, must've pulled on the s/wheel as I hit 2nd, never thought it would be quite so violent. And as I said, I would've changed to a 4.5 gear or similar probably to reduce top end rpm if I carried on......and maybe a set of B1 heads.....reckon there was an 8 in that car
