Belts somthing not right ???

Post by autofetish »

On the engine there is a crank pulley with 4 groves for fan belts
starting from engine towards the front bumper

1st grove is empty

2nd grove is a belt to alternator and the alternator keeps it tight.

3nd grove is power steering pump and uses the pump adjustment to keep it tight.

4th grove is to water pump/fan and no adjustment the belt is slipping and cant tighten.

what am i missing ???

Water pump only lines up with the 4th grove on the crank hub and nothing else.

The pully on the water pump has no off set

Hey Wil your cars not an A/c car but the 400 may have been from a A/c car. ??

Alternator belt should normally be triangulated fitment ( via crank, water pump, alt) to keep tension.
one of those grooves should match up

just so you know there are a lot of different pulley set ups...Dunc might have a something :thumbright:

autof -

Couple of pics from my engine installation - As stated above, belts for water, alt etc should run triangulation, and power steering off another.
The pulley on mine is only 2-groove.

I went through similar, and got all my pulleys from '440source' for very reasonable price. All shiny and new, bolted on first time. (Get the right belts too ! US ones have different profile, Euro ones will slip/wear !)

Cant see your pics clearly - photobucket doesnt link ?
