That's real 5hit . . . We pay enough road tax, try to make them pay.

Why is the car laid up, no spare ?

Don't hold your breath waiting for compensation. My Bananarama! a pothole last year, blew 2 tyres and knackered both alloys and left her stranded in the middle of nowhere. I took loads of pics and put in a claim. 6 months later the council replied saying due to section 6 paragraph 9 subsection b blah blah blah they are not liable. We contacted a solicitor and they said the same.
I just thank God it wasn't me on my bike...

Thats a shame Bilko and yeah, lucky not a bike!!

Think a lot depends on if the pothole has been previously reported etc. Think once the council are aware they have a duty of care to other roadusers... something like that. Still worth looking into Dunc,

I just got back from spending Christmas just outside Banstead in Surrey.
The sides of the "country" roads have got loads of massive potholes like that. Some of them hidden in puddles of water.

I was keeping away from the sides of the roads as much as possible but Monday night I had to move over for an on-coming local going hell for leather and BANG my front 17" Alpha alloy dropped into a badun. :x

I was expecting big damage to the wheel cos it was a hell of a thump but fortunatly just a scuff on the edge of the rim and a bite out of the tyre next to it. But it seems OK otherwise and I drove the 300 mile home yesterday no problems.

Lucky though. It was bloody deep that hole and there were quite a few like that all around Banstead. Bloody nightmare.

aww blimey what a bar steward , hit one about 13 - years ago in a v6 mondeo i only just bought , done wheel , lower control arm anti roll bar link , & tyre , anyone worked on a mondeo knows what a pain N/S is having to lower the sub frame lift the engine a little , easy , but bloody time consuming.

, was going about 30, it was right on the edge of drain cover right in the tyre path in the country lane , i was driving down . the cover was slightly raised & it was on the far side , so go over the drian cover & there it was , bang , never saw it too busy looking , as it was narrow country lane with idiots driving a 50 + coming the other way , was pouring hard too , massive bang , looked in the mirror & the car done the same that was following me !
these were the days before wide spread mobiles with cameras in , so being late sunday afternoon , just starting to get dark , , decided to go back in the moring , with camera , tape mesure etc !!
now you may not believe this , i know i could not !! with in the space of about 13 hours , & most of that being night time , the pot hole had been neatly repaired , not a quick job either , :thunder:
yet all the other holes in the road , were left ,

i know because i had the 4 replaced last yr under warranty as the lacquer was starting to peel, so i enquired in case they did not warranty them,

they are made from something special so are very light but strong enough for the speed and massive weight of the car, they were part of the ss package to get weight from the car,

If there prob with the laquer peeling off, I bet they have quite a few rims lying around they will end up selling to the scrap man, Id be making some enquirys.Do you not know anybody that works there ?

Quite a few years ago I bought, from our local prosche garage, lots of new standard exhausts (cos every wanted more noisy exhausts, but they were dealer fitted back then) & rims with the laquer peeling, the scrap man offered them £500 for the lot as scrap valve, when it was only £7/ton for mixed, I gave a bit more & slowly sold them on ebay over a couple of years for shed lots more
