Love or hate Russell Brand, he has a beautiful command of the English language and a view of the world and people, especially those in torment, that few of us can boast.
This is his article about Robin Williams.

People tend to paint them selves in a corner and dont think there is any way out , so they end it ,not knowing or assuming no body cares. they are emotionally lonely, and they cant see the light at the end of the tunnel any more, and they dont have the energy to pull them selves out, and they probably think about it all the time until that day comes.

and one thing I know it takes some big kahunas to actually do it
Sorry to hear of you loss Drew, such a shame.

I am no stranger to suicides or fatalities as we call them on the Railway, As a Train Driver I have seen many and have had one myself. You feel anger and sorrow for the person who has taken their own life, as well as sorrow for the people they leave behind.

Thanks I appreciate that,

yes thanks, it leaves a pretty deep scar,
but one has to realize in the end we are all responsible for them selves ,

if someone has suicidal thoughts it needs to be talked about, it is a disease ,

and back in the day when my Dad did it , no body talked about it was hush hush, swept under the rug due to the fear it brings,

again dont be afraid to talk about it it helps alot, just being able to post this helps me aloT

My Brother trusted me enough to actually tell me he was going to end his life, I didnt panic, I DID get him to two Drs , they found nothing except for severe depression, and severe heat disease ,a very dark world that again is kept secret,

if you know someone with life issues at least listen to them even if you cant help them , the listening buys alot of time with the person,

The head is a very powerfull thing if its unhinged it takes some getting right again,
its a very selfish thing to do as those left behind suffer from it the rest of there live,s , but that wont stop them from carrying it out,,
i always think about all those people who,s life was cut short due to illness or an accident of some sort, boy what they would have given to stay alive yet others take a perfectly healthy body and end it,
we can be in amongst people and not got a clue that they are deeply suffering from depression etc,,,,,,,

Yes I told my brother he has no idea how much this will hurt, he said he hurts more, well I guess

, but like you said Cannonball, someone out there that is sick and or dying would take that life in a heartbeat,so yes it is a very selfish thing to do.

And in the end I asked him what I asked him what I should do with all his stuff, he said "I dont care I will be dead" so this is the kind of self defeatist attitude that is going on inside their heads, and it is very hard to change their minds, I am just glad that I knew and didnt get blind sided by the action, it still hurts but I am glad he trusted me and that helps more than anything.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest in print , I have talked about it alot but never posted anything, I dont know most of you but this is a society thing ,not a personal thing it needs to be talked about some where some how

It's a lot easier to talk about someone else's struggles with depression than it is your own that's for sure.

I doubt anyone on here would feel they could air their own struggles even to someone they feel close to.
Actually it is probably easier talking to a stranger.

I think that's very true, you feel you're letting loved ones down by admitting to it but strangers you don't care so much.

I'm sure I get bouts of depression but I don't really know if it's that or am I just a grumpy bugger sometimes? :?

The one thing to realize is you are not alone

and hey yea I posted some serious stuff here about me

but yea somehow talking to you guys it seems ok to let it out.

If you tell loved ones they will pester you till you want to never tell them anything again , so there is a filter we all use with different people

hey Drew....you are a guy to be respected very much for discussing this. I know we all have some banter going on and mess about as some light relief from our daily grind at work but when the chips are down, good people are good people and all the guys I have become friends with and know on here certainly fall into that category!! If we were all in the pub, we would discuss this and help eachother. Weve just got a big pond between us but no probs eh!

Like others on here, I have been touched by the tragedy of suicide and talking really does help. I dealt with the aftermath of my ex brother in laws death. We knew nothing of his troubles as he put on a brave face. He took his own life and I had to clean his flat out etc. He was living in squaller in a crappy council hi rise in Birmingham, lots of debt, drink issues....poor soul. Made me count my blessings and am thankfull for my health, family and friends etc every day.

Thanks for sharing Drew....very thought provoking and sobering

Cheers Steve

Yea we are not alone , and the more we talk about the better ,even if in the end something bad happens,

atleast we talked about it and tried to get some resolve.

Thanks Steve :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright:
