whats involved in swapping a prop shaft seal

hello

propshaft/yolk seal on my 4 speed is letting the oil out in puddles.

its an aussie 4 speed but takes the same seal as a 727

presume there is a hard seal with a rubbery lip n spring like a 1 pice main seal in the end of the housing with a strange metal and rubbery bit over that

all I can see without breaking it further

do I have to dismantle.

anyone do them over here Jenson/rover et al any preferred brand

surface of yolk is ok

Took me about an hour all in. prop off,hook out old seal, clean up,fit new seal with large socket and hammer,prop on ,job done. Got seal from WASP I think.

Easy peasy- Yes the seal is in a metal casing which you just knock out with a suitable big screwdriver. Tapping in the new one is even easier

Clean prop end and thin smear of grease before sliding in.
New seal from WASP.

If it's the same as a 727, Sussex auto parts will have them in stock. It will be a flat seal rather than the stock type that has an extra rubber bellow on the end, that type is quite hard to come by and not needed. You just need to drop the prop, dig out the old seal with a screwdriver and a hammer. Just carefully knock in the new seal with a suitable sized socket.

Dave I have them in stock if you need one.

Jake the back of the car as high as possible so you don't loose any more fluid remove prop pull old seal out and fit new one.
