Engine casting Numbers

Post by kma176 »

After reading Daves very good article on de-coding engine numbers,
I've checked the numbers on a block I'm going to use for my Satellite
it has an extra -6 at the end of the number does anyone know if it means anything????

The whole Number is :-2780930-340-6

Also thinking of making it a stroker-any info would be welcome - its already
had a bore at +30 but has some rust damage and needs to be taken out a
bit more?

I believe that it was the casting Jig number (cant remember the proper name for it).

So your engine was made with the 6th one.

Ahhh found it.....Its the Core Casting Index Number according to the NET:

The digit after the displacement only tells teh amount of repairs done to the mold the block has been cast in. If I remeber correctly -1 is not used, the numbers start from -2? And the biggest numbers are over 10 before the mold was replaced with a new one.

The dash number after the displacement is called the Core Casting Index Number, it is the number of core plugs that were replaced in the casting core that was used to make the sand mold.
