Un Registered 70 Charger?

Post by witorque »

We have a 70 Charger not yet registered that we aim to restore
I didn't import it myself
I brought it off ebay maybe 8 years ago
It has the title deed which states it was exported October 2005, so has been in the UK nearly 10 years
Before we spend £1000's on it to get it through an MOT
Are there any time limits on registering an imported car?

I am not aware of time limits but you will need HMRC proof of import duties paid to register.

I was sure you have ti tell HRMC withing X weeks of importing a car.

Just googled this though it is for EU to UK. Might be different for US to UK, thought probably not.

You’ll get a late notification penalty of £5 per day if you don’t notify HMRC within 14 days of the vehicle arriving in the UK.
10 years you say?

£18250.

You are very right in saying there is a time limit to pay duties, but I would have thought after some many years someone should have paid and have proof. If not, I think you need to make some tentative enquiries re outstanding duties.

I have found the payment of charges document, stamped by HM Customs & Excise, 15th November 2005. Came in through Southampton. Originally a Kansas car.
Aquired by Robert Peters of Somting, West Sussex - Anyone know him?
I bought it from Derbyshire
So looks good to proceed with
