Thoughts on opening a tv/movie memorabilia museum...

Ive got a massive collection of TV / Film memorabilia from the 70's & 80's so It would be cool to see some pics of your stuff - post some pics up if youve got time.

Here is just a very small taster of the kind of item's i have and collect. Do you have a particular theme you collect??

Here is about 2% of my collection ( over 2000 items + )

I have box upon box upon box upon box........you get the idea. From original star wars to Cannonball run / fall guy / dukes / smokey and the bandit / A team / nearly every games console ever made from 1976 to 2001 including all Atari models / VIC 20 / comm 16 / comm 64 / zx 48k spectrum. I also have most of the evel knievel stuff - most of the Star wars stuff ( 9 Millenium falcons valued at 3k ) - all the 70's / 80's car TV / Film stuff.............

It would take me 2 days to take pics of everything.....these are just a few

I had some of those toys when I was ickle (S&H Torino, Kojak Buick, Evel Knievel dragster), but I took them out of the boxes and played with them... what was I thinking?...

I have one box of what I think is collectables and struggle to store it anywhere, you guys must have a lot of storage.

My first thought when seeing this thread was the Cars of the Stars Museum in Keswick.
I was there last Easter and the museum has closed and is now an empty premises in the centre of town. It closed in 2011.

I do like the idea but business wise it would not make a living. You would need something else to run alongside it. Stondon car Museum near me just closed. That was a huge place with a massive collection but was always quirky and never had the foot traffic to make it viable. The busiest it ever was was the weeks before it shut down when everyone went (including me) to see what the auction lots would be.

Maybe join forces with an existing museum of different interest (such as a small air museum) and the two seperate interests would draw people in, so both benefit from the wider interest pool and higher visitor numbers.
You could look to rent / use one area of the exisiting museum as your memorabilia museum.
There are several small volunteer type museums in and around Suffolk which are at the old US air bases. Any of these would probably welcome an extra draw for the public.

To me,this stuff is just a dust collector,worthless until it is sold on. I had loads of stuff,not this type but earlier toys. Almost all sold now,money in the bank or things bought and lots of space freed up. My dads 1929 pedal car made just under £700 alone,better sold. What the hell could I do with it other than clean it and look at it? Hundreds of toys,model steam engines you name it all out the way,no more worry. Turned over £30K on ebay in 8 years

I can see both sides and I do collect model cars (mostly movie and Mopar). These are all on display though, modern and worth less than brand new though.

Some of the stuff shown in this thread could bring is some real big £££.....Especially if you have more than one.

I'd be too tempted to sell it and invest the money into more classic American tin, stroker motor, repaint etc etc ect.

Great that this stuff is saved though......I had the JB Licence to kill set.

Being a kid and a pyromaniac the airplane and helicopter lasted twelve months before an aerosol and a lighter got involved.........

Question: Have you guys got these catalogued under house insurance.......Just wondering if the worse ever happened and you tried to claim 15k for lost memorabilia, that they may stipulate max payout at a lot less?

To me its an investment - I paid £260 for a boxed 79 Boba Fett Palitoy figure about 15 years ago. Its worth 2k now ( and Ive been offered that )

Similar to this but not as good condition

Add that to another 50 star wars figures + most of the vehicles and thats a nice little get me out of Jail free card if i ever need the cash. And the Star wars stuff is 10% of my collection. £££ kerchinngg

None of my business but my question still stands when your talking that sort of money for a collection.......Do you go under house insurance or have specialist cover?
