Rear wheel bearing change?
Moderator: Moderators
Just for ref Matt. The Dr Diff Axle I've got for mine has green bearings.
From what I've read they are absolutely fine going round corners. The only issue is if you have wide sticky rubber and enjoy autocross (Very high lateral loads).

If it goes Wonky-bent tonight that is exactly what I am doing tomorrow....MattH wrote:Thanks for all the info, I am slowly understanding how these work, but I may consider a trip to Hauser's to have it done, even if i just take the shafts up there.

They don't look bad, there is no scoring, small amount of shine on the outer face of the housing of the bearing. The shaft didnt just fall out once bolts were free, it took a tap with a copper mallet to loosen it then pulled out. I didnt need a puller to remove the shaft.

They were very noisy and made a horrid scuffing noise, possibly from sitting for 15 years without being turned. I have also had a grinder across the inner race and removed some of the rollers, so no going back on the passenger side now. I could remove and clean the drivers side but will need to fit a new pass side at very least. i might do that one and adjust, see how it improves before butchering the drivers side.

So I took both out, got the collar off the adjustable side, but couldnt shift the bearing. Took both shafts to Hauser Race Cars who fitted a new bearing on passenger (adjustable) side and checked the drivers side. Geoff said it felt fine and regreased that one. All done while I waited, (lots of recent American Car World and CA to flick through) and great price too.
I stayed with taper bearings, as original.
Its all back on the car and I have set the end float with a dial guage at 13 thou, which still feels like alot of in/out movement but that is the figure Mopar quote 13 - 23 thou.
Just need to drive it now to see how it feels and see if the noises have improved.
