Put a nitrous kit on what you have, only way to wake up that engine for less than 2K,make sure fuel system is good, retard timing,it will go low 14s/high 13s :thumbright:

I am not a nitrous lover,but 125hp on a stock motor will give you a real 400Hp.

To run 12s on the motor, budget about 8-10k buying new parts and labour

dave is spot on

I just spent more than your budget on a rebore, half your money will go on labour alone, you will find yourself on a big spend trying to match parts ,as once you do start to make some power ,you then will be needing to upgrade the vertor, then the box ,then the axle ,the list goes on ,and then you may end up with a car that's not really that nice to drive on the street

Maybe re orientation of the plans!

Not read a bad review on these cams and could be cheap, fun on your low compression motor and give it some more go, too

Then add some gears to the rear and your still under 2K

To make power the conventional way you really need decent compression and that alone will take a big bite of the budget. Some of those late 440's and 400's have the pistons over 100 thou. down the bore, gawd knows how low the compression really is.
