My very last restoration!!!

Under the poxy thing again today!
Taking me ages to get the rear underbody corrosion free,
Hopefully one more weekend should see it done and ready for epoxy,
Such hard work doing it laying on one’s back,
But I’ve finally got nice clean grey metal!

And confident that the rear is as structurally strong and as corrosion free as the front floor sections
Probably a tad anal for a home restoration but hey I’m doing it for me !

Been busy again
Finished my heater box and various other things

Cut the skin off the left hand door and almost finished blasting the shell, have some corrosion to remove and weld in new metal,

These came out nice,
Full satin black for the heater assembly,

The other parts , interior and headlamp supports I refinished in Audi Mythical black pearl,

Spent another day under the TA yesterday,
Very long winded mission removing corrosion with Acid,
But each application gets it cleaner,
Another weekend and it will be virtually spotless,
When doing this stuff one’s self time isn’t overly important as this is the only opportunity to try and do it right!
The floor will be easily good enough the Factory Red Oxide
If I decide who that route?

Got the other door blasted and epoxied,
This needs some repairs to the extreme lower edge and trailing corner,

But I very much doubt that!
But I’m doing almost everything possible to preserve the old girl ,
I’ve virtually eradicated every bit of corrosion from the underside now, spent another couple of hours yesterday removing residue and then re applying the Acid,
Just had a Quick Look and yeah it’s looking pretty clean now,
Soon be time to actually do some proper repair work!

Looking at the current market anyone considering doing this type of restoration would be wise to just walk away,
Prices are dropping and costs are rising, the perfect storm
in restoration terms !

Finally got the control arms I’m colour
I was quite surprised at how much of a job it was to remove the bushes and cups etc,
But there painted now and can be rebuilt at some point

Need a break now, it’s tough one one’s body working 6 days a week full manual labour,

Actually starting the engine parts !
Virtually everything else is done,
Still got to skin the doors ,
Started fabricating the underside repair panels,
Basically one drop off and a small piece on the inner tail panel,

What did you use to gt the rust off the steering box, and will you put a finish on it?

Used Ferro , good stuff
And refinished in clear over base Titanium

Finally got the rear underside in Epoxy
Taken me weeks to get it good enough for sealer
So can finally move on the doing the actual body now



Nice epoxy this Novol Protect 360,
Goes on sweet and stays glossy,

The second pics show a small amount of polyester
A previous fitting of a electric fuel pump and pipes
Left a few holes , so these were welded up and squared

And looking mighty fine underneath, steering box came out nice too. Keep it up

Finding it hard going atm , back when I was younger I’d take a break and find something else to do,
Alas time is in shorter supply now so need to keep going whenever I can

Very pleased with the new Epoxy, goes on lovely and drys to a nice sheen,
If it could be tinted to Red Oxide it would be perfect for finishing the whole flood pan underneath,
