Hi All, this are two pictures of my wife's 1960 Dodge Dart Pioneer. I bought it for her as a surprise birthday present 20 years ago. She love's "Fiona" and is the main driver. We haven't been out in her much in recent years, but aim to get out more now that we have more time. I go on the bike, she goes in the car!

Hi Steve, Thanks, we built the garage (first!) and the house, which is partly why we have been busy.
The car was imported by John Lilley in 1992 as one of his personal cars. A mutual friend introduced us and I asked him if he had a late 50's early 60's car with fins. On the spur of the moment he offerred me the Dodge (that he said he'd never sell!), so I was right place right time. He had the bottom half resprayed from its original white, the roof is original and had rebuilt the motor (its a 318 with 2 speed push button trans). The interior is original, this is not a concours car and never will be. I overhauled and replaced the brake lines/ shoes and installed a later twin circuit master cylinder when I bought her. My son also made a twin pipe stainless exhaust for her, straight through absorption, not loud, just in character! She needs rewiring, that's on my list once I've got my bikes all sorted.

Thats gorgeous! Im a huge fan of originality and have tried to keep mine as original as I can too. I know Ive said it before but I breeze past highly restored cars at shows and gravitate towards cars like yours that show their history....love it! That brake upgrade is a great idea. I did that on my old 66 Fury. The single circuit system scared the life out of me!! Nice easy upgrade and strangely, I love making brake pipes etc. I think things like ignition upgrades, brakes, charging system, lighting etc are all necessary for us to safely enjoy these old cars but dont detract from the looks or character of the car.

A rewire is very sensible. Im sure you know but I found that adding additional earths to exterior lighting got rid of lots of issues. I remember when I first got my car, I went to a show with my youngest lad and it got to dusk and we headed home. I realised I had lost the rear lights (not good on the motorway). We only had the number plate light. That was down to poor earthing of the bulb holders to the lighting casing. I hard wired leads onto the holders and to the body so I can now take the holders out and the bulbs stay lit. Bulkhead bypass and relays for the headlights was another good and safer upgrade to help minimise the chances of fire.

I was talking to Ade Worman a few years ago and he recommended 'Painless' wiring looms. A tiny bit pricey but I would go that route if I ever have to do it. I think by the time you buy cable and correct connectors etc you wont be a million miles off the cost of a ready made one like that. Certainly worth investigating I would say.

That really is a case of 'right time, right place' as you say. I always say that you make your own luck but that really was a blessing!

Continue enjoying her and thanks for taking the time to post the pics and reply...cheers :thumbright:

Terry Redburn used to own it about 30 years ago when it was orange.
