Sorry gurus - learning here.
Why would a 69 500 be more desirable than a Daytona ? Surely the Daytona was the evolution of a 500 but one that won a lot more ? Plus the whole legend of 'so ugly they were left sitting in showrooms' and 'first 200mph lap' etc etc ?

Genuine question - I dont know !
"Cum homine de cane debeo congredi." Woof.

Current Charger status - "Working and awesome" \:D/

I’ve seen 6. 2 in USA, Cartsten’s and 3 in the UK. two of them are owned by members on here now that live only a couple of miles from me.
The other one was. White one years ago at Wheels Day when it was at Brooklands

I think I've only seen Carsten's 500 at the Pod, plus one at Mopars at the Strip (Vegas) in '08. Dont remember seeing one at Brooklands tho :-k
Personally, I just like them more than the Daytona - I dont think I have the cajones to drive a funny looking wing car out'n'about  :D
I like seeing other people driving them tho, great to see some rare Mopars being used :salute:

The white 500 was possibly the one from the Monteverde collection, Hemi car. I can’t remember taking it to Brooklands though. Maybe someone has a photo. At that time in the collection, Hemi Daytona, black white interior four speed, Hemi Superbird, B5 blue, white interior four speed and the white Charger 500. Now all back in the USA.

Unlike the 70 500, which was just a trim level and quite common, I think the 69 500 was the homologation model built to legitimise stuff like the enclosed rear window used on the Daytona, a similar number or perhaps fewer were made than the Daytona and the survival rate was probably less as they weren't initially seen as collectable like the Daytona became, so basically a super rarity now.

Hopefully there will be a UK owned 69 500 at the Mopar Nats next years. Martin I’ll try and dig out the video.

Going a bit off-topic here... sorry Derek, but hi Steve. That Charger was actually gold... must be your screen
I'm not suer if it's still going but yes of course the Vegas show was great. Enormous paved area for show'n'shine, trade stalls, merch, pits etc etc but no natural shade like trees etc to escape the sun.

Can't find my pics on here, but here's Adam's, if you get a few mins... (Adam's have the photobucket watermark... but mine have just disappeared  )

Well done Tommy! Fantastic to see 3 wing cars lined up in the UK.

(and thanks Rob for the link to my 2008 MATS photos - shame about the watermark).

It's a funny thing with the 69 500's they weren't a great success when launched, And the Daytona's and Superbird's were much more successful, The production figures varied between 390/540 but they needed to make at least 500, they were all RT's or RT SE's pulled off the production line and sent to creative industries and modified between Sept/Dec 1968, I am currently restoring a F8 4 speed, Black interior, Dana track pack, manual brakes and steering 500, it is a very low optioned car only thing it has is an AM/FM radio it was the last 440 500 made in Dec 68, I am still looking for the odd trim clip, nuts and bolts, if anyone out there has bits stripped of a 68-70 charger please let me know, I'm hoping to have it out next year, but still a lot to get on with.
