"For each 0.010" removed from the head, 0.0123" must be removed from the intake face of the head"

Thanks lads. I'll see about taking it off the intake side of the head.

Starting to chicken out of running only 40thou quench.

MP say the piston will hit the head at 45thou. KB pistons say 40thou is fine for stock rods up to 6500rpm as long as the bearings are tight and cylinder walls not worn so the piston does not rock any.

I am thinking maybe I should aim for 50 thou quench to be safe.

That would mean a total of 29 thou off the head and 35 thou off the intake side.

Where's your sense of adenture Dave. Balderdash to the experts. Go for 40 thou. If its too close the motor should do its own clearancing. Near enough is good enough mate

I run 0.042" piston to head clearance and would like it a bit tighter, go for 0.040" Dave.

Piton rock should'nt be an issue with those pistons , (long skirt with CH over 2") , tight quench motors are timing sensitive with tight tuning windows , for a street car that sees little time on the track i would shoot for around .050" quench , that ole 605" used to run .100" piston to head @ squish band with around a .300" deep dish.

I decided on 50 thou quench anyway to play safe. The heads are in the machine shop and should be done by the end of the week.

This will still be 10 thou tighter than it has ever been before and 29 thou tighter than it was last time out. This will do until such a time as I can afford to fit new pistons and ported Stealth heads.

Probably some 5 or 10 years from now.

Why not just get some new pistons/heads & be done?
