blue they looked very good

looked long and hard for a one that covered 3 carbs, and i dare say one could be built from parts of 2 set ups

however no space at the bulkhead end I could not find couplers between the shafts that were long enough or of decent enough quality.
and my bloody middle carb is cocked slightly to left. i.e i could not couple it to the carb on the right

original linkages were RT charger specific and out of `1300 made only about 400 had these parts

needless to say they cost about the same as a transmission....

hence the fiddly custom mish-mash

after a quick linkage redesign

started it on saturday

whoooooooo sounds good even in its untuned state
enough to annoy the wife and scare the kids..free revs sky high with the smallest touch on the throttle......might be an issue but guess its a running rich or air leak problem...

+ proof enough that reusuing the old inlet/exhaust gasket was a poor choice

small burning graphite sparks flying out from the mounting face was an alarming sight

as was the exhaust note crack when it reved.... exhaust gas coming out all over the place

gassed myself on unburnt fuel so needs extensive tune
pointless doing that till new gasket arrives....

planned to use composite gasket that i have hanging in garage once the inlet fit was finialised but changed my mind...exhaust paste is rubbish....

must have removed about 15 grammes of alluminium to get it to sit right by sight in relation to exhaust and still obvioulsy not quite there hanging too low leaving only 1-2 mm of gasket between port and the edge of the flange at the corners of the ports

and flange thickness are not well matched either between inlet and exhaust so gone for 2 mm fat crushable tanged steel shim with graphite faces

2 on order one for this and one for the new engine which will have headers (even harder to seal)...

the lot will need to come off again for more attention from the flap wheel and grinder
flange on no.6 inlet is pushing exhaust manifold down off centre from the ports when done up tight enough which cuases problems on other exhaust ports up the other end.....

loads of meat so can attack it at will....

I'm quite excited about this....hopefully should be good,, well it will at least sound good....be interesting to see what just a carb swap on an un modified hemi 6 does

admitted defeat and cut off the exhaust headers

no going back now

extractor will be fitted and bodged with halfords joiner to the main system until i can get it welded...

could have been messing for weeks and weeks to make it work with standard exhaust manifold...

cast iron 2 outlet manifold with bolt on flanges to twin header which merges into collector the on into fat pipe

i did feel strangely sick chopping off a 71 and 72 only header section just past the collector, until i noticed i wasn't the first to have done that... 3 sperate bands of weld

thick metal as well

gonna have to get exahust tube expander

all back on again

spent a while trying to tune it...

discovred that throttle springs and helper springs never closed the throttle properly

spent a while pulling carbs to bits

the spanish ones are not as good as the orginals

with the throttle shafts done up properly the end washers rub
so the lot was lubed
and done up finger tight
lock plates installed again

works well now

took it out after a bit of a fiddle

left black lines up the drive :) oops

can't say if its faster
but mamanaged to split me lip grinning....

the noise and the way the torque comes in even in its rough tune state is niice

knocked off £15 worth of a 30 Quid set of ram tube mounted air filters somewhere on the A316...

had to purchase new filters today those in place easy knocked off when the ram tube of no. 6 hits the heater motor.

so 3 new socks coming from demon tweaks...cheapest option at the mo.

really need shorter ram pipes as well but that can wait.

No.6 Bananarama! the heater motor. with the socks i can bite a chunk out of the side of the ram tube and fit the sock in.

the noise is fantastic

Is the engine movement causing the ram tubes to hit stuff?

Why not fit a torque strap to limit engine movement?

six pack cars didn't have a heater well they did but they had a heater with the motor transverse under the dash like a 1960s valiant
rather tha n the through bulkhead one we know from later cars

mine is an aircon car so my heater motor is bigger as well

so yes engine moves about 5-10 mm when it rocks
gap is approx 5 mm

heater motor can flex in mount 5-10 mm

heater motor is rubber mounted

and the filters i have are rubber ring mesh filters that stick on the ends of the trumpets.

hence must have pinged one off

standard trumpets 62 mm long

ideally i'd have shorter ones

but can't really jsutify 150 or so on shorter and then another hundred odd on filters..

so will clerance the rim of the one that casues the issue so it doesn't cut through new filter

and put on soft sock type filters.

With the hotter engine and the throttle response from those carbs I would fit a torque strap mate. Otherwise you are going to lose an engine mount far from home (they only go when you are far from home).

Plus it never hurts to transfer some of that torque, lost in moving the engine, to turning the wheels instead. ;)

will take a look when the new motor goes in

must be a good place to attach from the front somewhere...

will check out the bolts for water pump alternator etc see whats good and hefty


if not there are normal mounts encased in a steel envelope

they can spread a small amount before becoming solid...
