the amount of times we have attended this event and maybe only been able to make a single pass in a day due to oil downs massive attendance etc etc it made it a joke you pay to sign on for as much track time as possible not be told thats it end of racing due to the fact the public and other racers have thrown the towel in.......
that's bad dunc, you pay to do unlimited runs so like you say, potentially an ideal opportunity to get some good track time in

back safe and sound, 'bird back in the aviary, 2 cold tins, took the dog out and now a 3rd tin. firstly, many thanks for all the warm hospitality, to guy and mary for the use of party headquarters, friends I already know and others I've now put a face to, micky d for being the only person I know ever to spit out one of Brigitte's home made fritters, blue for his 'leg' issues, and pete for out drinking me ... yeah I know i'm a lightweight! what a fantastic weekend tho. now to the 'bird, a massive thank you to pete for all his efforts to make the car run better than ever and so responsive, so pete says "just take the car round the pits to see how it feels" so off I pottered got to the top end of the pits, which were empty due to lack of attendance, and let her have it, went like a scalded cat but I ran out of road and braked .... nothing! pedal rock hard, 5hit, cranked the wheel and floored it into a donut and just missed the fence by next to nothing. I hadn't used the car since brands hatch but turns out that when I did those dozen laps the brakes got so hot they had melted the front brake lines effectively closing them up, so out came all the cameras thinking I was laying on a show, little did everyone know how close that was! still, over that now and cant wait for slyfield in 2 weeks where I fully intend to finish off them slicks!

wondered why I hadn't seen you on the strip. Bit off a close call eh mate.
Glad you had a good weekend. I must try harder for next year. I could have been up and down that strip all day from what I saw today.
Looking forward to some pointers from Pete now !!!
( you have checked the car for any weight reduction Pete may have sneaked in.

yeah you must come up if you can next year Gary, great atmosphere, bit more basic than the pod but really good fun. Pete had a really good weekend, that wise man has a wealth of knowledge but also didn't brake anything ... he left that to me ... almost!

Will do Don.
Had to much time off work this year due to unforeseen crap. ( and the missus wining a holiday week before Nats

) no work. No money !!! ( the joys of self employment !). Still managed to stick 3000 trouble free ( but slow

) miles on the car though.

Was good to meet up and chat to some of the guys again! The banter was great and the bit of racing that happened on Sat was great (it was Sat only for me)...........
First time i've been to Shakey and been dissapointed though. Weather can't be helped and the attendence was a lot higher than i expected, just at times like these you get to see how good the Pod is.
Racing finally started at around 1pm.....By 2pm the timing lights had broke, and by 2.30 the commentator became selective about timings.
For example, was a great race between Jim Smiths Chally and what i think was Big Blocks.....At the 1/8 they were very close, crossed the line and they still looked close......one of the closest head to heads i watched.......Never gave the times out, was to busy talking about the burnout happening in the box for the next race before either of the Challys had crossed the line!
Been to the last two years Gary's picnin events and they were great, just seemed that the weather, electrical gremlins and oil downs severely killed the entertainment. Especially as you can't see the times and the open header burnouts drown out the timings if he does announce.......
Apart from that was a great selection of cars there.......Even postman pat put in an appearance........

The Hoses are clearly a no-brainer and were totally Friar Tucked.
I have had glazed pads cause total brake failure on a motorbike (Triple disc set up), even though there was still material on the pads......
A man of your means should consign them to the bin and again (as part of the hose change) I would flush through all the brake fluid as I am sure that will have boiled to death..............
Are the discs warped? Check run-out or at least with a straight edge.....
Again, I do not think they are sufficiently large diameter for a lardy old "B" Body and your energetic driving style.....drilled and slotted or not; its "Width" that counts

Thanks Pete. Yeah been on to Chris at WASP and should have replacements by the end of the week. I've checked the discs and they run true, although as you say they do need to be bigger .... so thats another cheque taken care of! Anyhow it looks like the car will be ok for Sywell, but then after that back to the drawing board
