blue you really need to hang that oil line down so it has a droop in it, that will then hold oil in it like the s bend on a krapper, will then pull oil pressure much sooner/better than how you have it

Yea, routing the line is critical to avoid losing prime and having no oil pressure when you fire it up, been there suffered from that. I want to go upwards out of the pump so that it doesn't empty of oil when the motor is off, should be able to achieve it with a bit more thought. Yes Steve, headers are TTi's. Anyway, onwards....

This is the valve spring tool I bought from Mancini's, I liked this design because it leaves both hands free to lose the collets..

Rocker gear, Indy SR with thier spacers and hold downs, pushrods are 3/8" Crane. I found you need to mix and match the hold downs to get them on, they are drilled slightly offset so you can turn them around for best fit. You will now find you have no side clearance between the rockers. I wanted to see 20 thou between each pair, so you have to grind the sides of the holdowns until you have it. I did this without the pushrods in cos it's far easier. Obviously you need to keep the holdowns in order when you fit the pushrods and recheck the side clearance, 'cos stuff will have moved. It was a bit of a faf, so I will find some 20thou shim to wedge between the rockers as I tighten down the shafts on the other side. Talking of the other side, Indy have done me again, brand new set of rockers, 6 right hand and 10 left hand...

Got on the blower to WASP and I should have another pair next week.

Took my frustration out on one of thier valve covers, filing out the bolt holes some so that it would actually fit. God I hate Indy, doe's anything of thiers actually fit?

It was at that point I realised that with the thick Cometic gaskets, the studs were too short......

Anyway's cams in, it's a Comp Cams custom flat tappet ground on 112 LSA, I was advised to install it at 108. I used a Rollmaster timing set and degree'd it in, came out at 109 so I left it at that as 1 degree either way really isn't worth correcting.
Good move on the custom grind Blue , how many times do you see guys fitting cams that are too big , then they wonder why the motor runs with heaps of spark lead (40* plus) , motors lazy , runs like a dog , cranking pressure is zilch , convertor won't cut it................then they advance intake center line or run heaps of lash to band aid the problem................................

Ok , i'm guilty of advanceing ICL , not as a band aid though.

Agree , an interesting thread.

It's just a mild one mate, nothing too radical...

Been thinking some more about the oil pick up, Steve/Dunc, I think you're right, I can see the logic of the U bend idea, that will stop the drain back, I'll go with that.

If you wouldn't mind Jim, that would be handy. Have you had any problems with the oil pressure not coming straight up when you fire it up from cold? That's what I'm worried about, the twin line system I used to have years ago was a bugger for that.
