Well the MMA no longer have a Facebook presence.

Job done everybody. Hope you all feel happy and smug this morning.

It has been re-named "Mopar Fans World Wide" and will become yet another one of the many mopar pages on there. Shame because it was a good place to have a bit of crack with people in this club.

What a load of B o ll o c k s over nothing.
I've been on the FB page for 3 years, rarely been on it,just remember it was set up with the blessing of the then "in charge" brigade as a way of putting the club name around to attract members. Funny, people like rods n sods can have a FB page, doesn't seem to affect their message board.
Now Laura's had to remove the club logo and change the group name

She heard about all the fuss and changed it just to save the hassle.

She did so to stop all the bloody moaning, personally I feel embarrassed for her,she should not of had to do it,loads of other clubs, organisations and even businesses have a FB page so why is the MMA so much more important.

Love Facebook or not it was a fantastic way of (and maybe some of you never thought of this) of reaching out to the masses and Maybe just MAYBE bringing in fresh new young members as I shouldn't have to tell you the only way this club is going to keep going is getting young people to get into the hobby (lets face it none of us are getting any younger)and where do young people hang out ummmm oh yeah FACEBOOK.

But anyway let's not think about that, the damage is done,as we keep saying we have our reasons to leave the club,we are not doing it out of spite,we are not doing it to try and bring down the club,we also shouldn't have to explain why as for it is personal, what would have been nice for the likes of me a Dave etc would have been a "sorry to see you go,good luck and hope to see you back here one day"
It's a shame because I know that this time next year it will be something else sparking it off

No hard feelings just hopefully opening your eyes a bit anyway laterz

The only thing killing the MMA is the crazy £27 subscription.,Funny but Rods n Sods, the Stovebolt forum and most others are free. If we need banner ads to pay for the mb then that's the way ahead surely? There's already the odd wanted and for sale posting on Facebook this week and if I want something I'll post on there and on here to get that wider audience.

I never had a problem with the old subscription and to be honest the money saved on my insurance (being younger) far outweighed the subscription anyway, maybe because of my situation but I do think 27 is a tad much but then in all fairness I don't know what the costs involved are for the mag etc but I'm sure as Steve says there are better options like banner ads etc.

I thought this thread had become quite positive and brought the board back to life!
Now it appears people are getting bitchy. What gives? I really think people are over reacting somewhat!

As for the £27 fee that's an absolute bargain for the benefits we get in return.
The club must be quite expensive and time consuming to run surely.

I'm with Dave.

Whether you like or loathe his point of view, he has always talked sense and never concealed his thoughts. True outspoken Northerner.

Since selling y car, I have neither missed it, nor desired getting another one.

The thing is, if, (like some of us) you have other things in your life than your Mopar, when your mopar is gone, you arent left with a massive, un-fillable void. My life never revolved round the club or the car. Now the car is gone, I dont see the point of frequenting the board as like Dave, I dont have anything to offer (probably never did) for its betterment. So, for me, its not about afordabillity as far as renewal is concerned, its about there being a point in having THIS particular connection with the pals I have made.

I have looked at the FB site, thought about joining for about 0.003 ms and then thought 'nah'.

As I have said before, the vast majority of us have (or had) at least one of two things in common - love of mopars, or owning a mopar. Some own heaps, some own trailer queesn, some make huge efforts to go back to originallity which 98% of observers wont even notice or more importantly, give a flyingtwat about and others drive em hard and enjoy them. Anything else is pure coincidence. That is clear from some of the hostile, jeuvenile posts in this thread, so it is entirely inappropriate to criticise someones reasons for not wanting to renew just because they arent seeing life through your eyes.

As has been said elsewhere, this thread and the interest in it is exemplary of the very aspects of this club that some do not like.

Oh, and something else I think is hilarious. If you put up a post and no one comments, dont get upset. Buy a dog, they give unconditional love and will bring you your slippers and everything. Grow up and dont be so insecure FFS!!!

yes that’s right, seems to be the way of the world, saw 3 ads in 1 ad break on tv last night all said ‘find us on facebook’

so why wasn’t it publicised on here, done officially, a link put on the home page, a sticky in The Mopar Lounge, a line on the contacts page in the Mag, yada, yada, yada …

I can't see a problem with the Facebook bit of this, or even the use of the logo.
It is not using it for business purposes, if anything it may help other people find the club, so put the logo back!! :thumbright:

As far as £27 goes, that just about covers the cost of magazine and website, and we havent raised the price in 3 years now.
Check out the price of other car clubs.

Also remember what a car club is for. It is not just a forum. Back when the club set up there was no forum, it was the magazine alone.
Most insurers insist on club membership to obtain classic insurance and discounts. I bet the saving on that alone is more than £27.
I think that the insurers want you to be a CLUB member, not a forum user? I may be wrong but do Rods and Sods as a free forum get insurance discount?

Clubs also need to be a club in order to get DVLA recognition for age related plates etc.
How many members have saved their £205 per year road tax because their vehicle is now tax exempt thanks to a letter from the club?

How many new friends have you made through the club?
Would you trust people as much that you met on facebook as through the club?

I am not knocking the forum, in this day and age it is probably the most valuable resource we have, for its speed of information transfer, friendliness, and all the other benefits, but the club is more than just a forum and maybe that gets forgotten sometimes.

If we went internet only, it may reduce costs, but I suspect would also alienate some members who do not use the forum.

I do not know the answer to this as regards the way forward with the club.
I have been here a long time (too long some may say!) and enjoy what the club is and am proud to have been part of making it what it is.

I have no problem with people leaving either, if you don't own the car anymore then that link is gone, and there may not be a need for being a member. Vote with your feet. It's not like the club has upset it's entire membership, it s just that one person (Simon, Dave or Tony for instance) don't feel the need to renew.
I was a Triumph club member for over 20 years but let my membership lapse because I wasnt using the car. I still have it, just hasnt turned a wheel since 1997. That club didnt fail, more people have joined since and it still runs as it did.
Some people leave and then come back after a year or two, maybe just because other things are going on, the car is off the road or whatever.
I think there is room for facebook for those that want to use it, it is not an alternative to the club, it is a different thing. The two can exist together IMHO.
Back to my welding now, I have said far too much for one cup of coffee .
