We have found it works better if you swap the suggested jet size over - contrary to popular belief we have found that a bigger Nitrous jet than fuel works best.

Oh good grief! You think you know something then someone turns it all on it's head! ;)

So shoud the afr give a normal wot reading... 12-13?

I DO have a life you know...

Usually Nitrous and Fuel jets are tabulated for a specific "BHP" and the Nitrous jet is normally the smaller of the pair.

This is to prevent supposed "Leaning out" as everyone was paranoid about the mixture going lean when using Nitrous.

We have found in practice that we get best result when we transpose the jet sizes - i.e. make the Nitrous jet the LARGER of the pair.

Never had the motor lean out and we were running a 250 shot.

Just check the plugs regularly and you will be fine.

I thought this was your life? :D

Ta mate I'll have a play around :thumbright:

I just had a little tuning session without the gas (the one I should have done before the Nats...) I swapped the pv for a 6.5 (didn't have an 8.5 as Blue suggested). I turned the idles in a touch, but more dramatic ws the mains- down 4 sizes on each! That must be down to the ignition more than anything. AFR now 14.5-15 idle, 13.5 cruise, 12.-13 wot.
The regulator on the nos side has stuck again so I'll fit the Holley one I bought, then have a play with the nos jets

Good show.

This demonstrates the importance of setting ignition timing carefully before attempting an accurate carburation set up.

Fitted the new Holley reg and it's still acting up :? I've ordered a new gauge too, getting fed up of this stupid trivial bloody thing that's stopping me playing with the gas!
I've wired in my purge now to a shiny new button (sometimes the little things can put a smile on your face ;) ), and I've been eyeing up remote bottle openers and dismissing the idea as they're BLOODY expensive.
Then... my mate Kai was fixing the window in his Ford Fester and ended up with a spare motor which he donated to the cause.
So a couple of evenings furtling and I almost have a free remote opener!
I turned the bottle knob upside-down and ground the wheel of the window mechanism (yellow bit) so it slots inside it. I made a bracket to mount the motor to the wheel tub. It's rigid enough to operate, but has enough play to allow for a bit of flex, and the bottle will slide out without having to undo the opener mounting bolts :)
Mechanically it works great, I just need my brother-in-law to come up with some clever electronics so it operates forward and reverse, and auto-stops.

Found an original radio for the Belve :D

As you may gather from pic 3, it doesn't work. But then it was $30

It was also missing it's knobs but I knew I had some that would fit. Just the chrome fascias go for $70 so I knew it was a good deal.

I'd like an FM stereo/ auxiliary ouput conversion, but £360 seems to be the going rate

I picked up a nail in a rear tyre :?
Of course, as with everything on my car, it's...complicated.
To get the wheel off I have to jack the car high and drop the axle. Nowhere local can fit it on their machine, so it's a 20 minute drive to an ATS that's used to tractor and lorry tyres. Well they fixed it, but bashed the bloody wheel too! 3 chunks knocked out of it and the rim scraped to hell. I didn't notice until I got home, so off I go back there for them to deny all knowledge. So now I'm waiting for a call from the manager on Monday, I think I'm going to have a battle on my hands...

Yikes! Also ask them to put the balances on the inside too. Pet hate of mine that.... bloody cowboys :x

(he says, hoping you didn't balance them yourself - I know you did pretty much everything else on the car! :) )

Well I got in touch with the area manager and emailed him photos. There will be a full investigation, which is good. Their main defence was that the tyre machine couldn't have made those marks.
Well luckily I noticed these lever marks on the tyre so I have proof they didn't use the machine!

I took the car over to a local-ish place that builds custom exhausts, I'm going to make it a little quieter.
Sad I know, but it's doing my head in now. Like I have to wear ear defenders if it's running in the garage!
1st step is to have my Thrush mufflers cut open, a perforated tube welded in and they'll be packed with wadding. If that doesn't make much difference, I may have a 'H' pipe put in with a built-in silencer, and/or a pair of dead-end silencer boxes teed off the tailpipes.

That trip was in pouring rain- very exciting on semi-slicks! So, now the car stinks like wet dogs. I've stripped out the seats, carpets, matting, etc. There's gaps around where the rollcage goes through the floor, and a couple of small floor plugs missing. I'll seal that lot up, then once it's dried out, I'll take the opportunity to Dynamat the floorpans & bulkhead.

I know it's all adding weight, but I need to make it at least a little more user-friendly!
Maybe it's a sign of getting old :(

So here's the floor Dynamatted (Actually Skinz- same but cheaper) with my usual helper...

Then carpet underlay. £13 sq m, 10mm thick rubber crumb. No more wet dog smell, lots of sound absorption properties, very comfy underfoot

I did a neater job of relaying the carpet, quality control was on hand as you can see ;)

While the carpet was up, I got some wiring sorted-

The C-pillar lamps now work off the door switches. I might wire in a manual over-ride switch otherwise the battery will forever be flattened by the girls playing in the car!
My remote nitrous bottle opener now works from a dash-mounted switch. I haven't figured out an auto-off so I have to count 1.75 seconds to open or close.
Speaker wires are in place for the rear parcel shelf.
Trunk courtesy lamp is wired, I just need the actual lamp!
There's one under-dash lamp too, I need another if anyone has one?

Excellent stuff!

It's getting positively civilised! 8-)

Next you will be fitting an auto ;)
