Took a look @ the 383 & 440 block round the garage,none of them have a "step back" to facilitate the verter bolts,also the sump pan bolt holes are about 5mm from the leading edge of the block rail (where the bell housing snugs to)
If you fit a flat plate to the tranny,the least of your worries are if the verter Bananarama!,as the bolts will rip the block to bits first
If some of the blocks have a "set back" Ireckon they were cast on a friday afternoon or a monday morning
