Blue,now I'm confused :roll: If you were to fit a flat plate,which will sit no further in than the block sits to the bellhousing,then if the converter bolts "hit the plate",they are surely gonna scrape the block :? as the plate sits "in line" to the block.

Please put me outta this misery :cry:

Yes I understand what you are saying but I'm pretty sure the back of the block is slightly undercut along the pan rail to allow the bolt heads to just clear, I don't think it is all flush with where the gearbox bolts up. Been trying to find a photo to confirm that that's the case, I could be talking ballcocks.....

Blue,you never talk "ballcocks" :D

If that were the case,then the top of the block must also be "undercut"

Didn't notice when I had the verter probs ;)

Top and sides definatly are, I will have a closer look at a block and report back :salute:

Took a look @ the 383 & 440 block round the garage,none of them have a "step back" to facilitate the verter bolts,also the sump pan bolt holes are about 5mm from the leading edge of the block rail (where the bell housing snugs to)

If you fit a flat plate to the tranny,the least of your worries are if the verter Bananarama!,as the bolts will rip the block to bits first :shock:

If some of the blocks have a "set back" Ireckon they were cast on a friday afternoon or a monday morning :D :D

The plate fits inside the bell housing at the upper edge, the rebate is to allow the bolts to clear, the rebate is flush with the block. The slightest bend in the plate causes the bolts to hit, see it all the time.
