After my Barracuda bonfire I now keep two good ones in the car!

Three ancient extinguishers...didn't know they had a sell by date to be honest

One in the car ,still in the Green. Two in the house still Green. Ill give em a shake later on.

Got one in the project came with it .Got a tag on it Calif Fire Dept passed june1983 should be alright for a few more years

New one in the Garage and a HALON illegal one in the car.....nothing beats Halon to put out a fire....dont think the Halon would kill me, but the fire might, so i'll take my chances

Yep got a recent one in the car, I've had an engine fire and it ain't funny....

Big orange foam motorsport one in the Viper, had one engine fire also, when the guy in the shop says try this engine cleaner its the same as Jizer, put it on a hot engine and wooooooof, engine goes up.

Plus now foam and powder in the garage.

I have got a couple of those somewhere in the garage. But I keep a dry powder one on the garage wall and in the Challenger. Hate dry powder though. It makes such a mess.

I have had two car fires. One in my old Oz Charger and one in the Chally. Both caused by me welding.

You would think I would learn wouldn't you?

In what way does powder ruin everything?

if under bonnet fire

the powder gets into everything

if the carb hasn't melted or isn't even involved i.e miles away

the ammount of the stuff that gets in means it needs a rebuild

mind thats the last of your worries, your car has just gone on fire




often thought a stanley knife through the top hose would help.

mind C02 isn't the be all and end all

you can blow out the flames for long enough to go phew and then have the whole lot go up again, the source of heat is not sucessfully removed only the 02 for a spell .

had that happen with a chip pan.

fire blanket is probably usful in both situations

combined with an exstinguisher

And never use CO2 on a liquid fire it just acts like a huge fan and you end up with most of the surroundings on fire as well.

Dry powder also corrodes electrical connections and promotes rusting. If left it also stains the paint.

Ask me how I know.

Yup, me too, Halon one in the car, must be nearly 15 years old and the guage is still in the green. Had another the same in the garage but lost pressure. Also have a powder one in garage.
However I'm not sure if I'd rather have a fire than use a powder one!!! I hate 'em, they are so messy. Is there a politically correct substitute for Halon now that the meddling idots got em banned??
In other words, something that puts out the fire without creating more damage than the fire......
