I went dry sump once.

But then i welded a patch over the hole in the sump and it ran much better. :thumbright:

Painting the block ( inside) :D speeds the oil return to the sump, but i would guess its not so important with a scraper.
How many times have you let of the loud pedal at the top of the strip and the oil light flickered on or the pro light came on for a second ?
that will be less likely due to the scraper too.
But the reduction in rotating mass will be the HP winner

scraper would still be good ... cuts the oil out of the whirlwind and gets it back to the tank quicker

[quote="Perhaps Cometic could make a combined scraper and gasket, has to be a market for it.[/quote]

I took a look at the crank scrapers late last night, Cometic could cut one no doubt about it but as far as I see it there are a couple of problems as far as combined gasket also.

Cometics AFM is aluminium with a blown foam coating on both sides, this I don't think would be strong enough, it's great when sandwiched between 2 faces but there's a lot of the scraper that isn't.
Another problem is the AFM is coated in sheets then cut so the whole lot would be coated, this wouldn't allow oil to run very well.
Also while the cometic AFMs are reuseable, I wouldn't without a smear of "right stuff" just to be sure, so first time dry, 2nd sealed, 3rd bin it, not many people would want to bin the scraper and buy a new one after a few removals.

Here's what I think...... if the Cometic gasket was made wider in the areas where the scraper would be then a seperate scraper could be bolted (and loctited) to the gasket, the scraper could be cut out of stainless so it would be stronger but no where near as heavy as that steel one, customer has the scraper for life and simply replaces the gasket as needed, no sealer like the steel one would need either.

Come to think of it the whole gasket could be a little wider and incorperate a bolt in mesh screen also..... HHHMMMMM.... who thinks what???

also, i've fitted a few Chenoworth girdles, doing it this way would mean the oil pan retaining nuts are as close to the block face as possible, it would only be a small amount but worthwhile maybe

Yup, I think they pretty much wrote the book on aftermaket scrapers, they know their stuff and are pretty cheap to boot!
Worth thinking about dowelling them to the oil pan rail too, funnily enough Blue and I were chatting about this just yesterday.
