I work for a bit of BT associated with mobile phones and i can promise you if you ain't got a signal you ain't making a call !
Those little masts you see by the roadside with the white 'coffins' on top are what your mobile has to 'see' to connect to the rest of the world, ('see' cos they work by microwave which behaves a lot like light)incidentally if you're below one you're phone won't connect cos the coffins point outwards but unless you're out in the sticks you'll usually have a few sites in reach.

Just say a key number of specific words in a conversation by email or phone and you will have far more the local bobby around to see you...you'd even get a helicopter to follow ya around!!

Yeah...but the only remote thing about it is the location of the island they send you to where the geneva convention doest apply or exist for that matter...
