At the risk on being labelled a rivit counter,

,I would have thought that an H reg car would have the face-lift dash, where the 4 extra dials were in the centre of the dash as opposed to in a raised pod on top the dash???Not knocking the car at all as I love Mk 2`s and had plenty of 1600E experience.Just curious.
I`ll get me coat!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought all GT cortinas had dials on top of dash, the same as the series 1 1600e but i may be wrong

I am sure the GT retained the high level dials. Somewhere I have a complete set in the housing for a MK.1 GT! There is one on ebay at the mo, last i saw upto £8,300.00.

Someone I know had a MK2 Lotus Cortina needing lots of repair, I last saw it 10 years back. Think it's still gently rotting in one of his sheds.

Hey nice one

Just seen this thread. I love Mk2's too My dad had a 68 1600 E when I was about 10. He bought it for £ 60 with an engine knock and he just dropped another xflow in the first day. It was gold but the paint was peeling on the boot lid, roof and bonnet. He sprayed it orbigine and put a Black vynil roof on it and It looked awsome. I loved that car he had it a few years and I was gutted when he sold it. That being an F reg had the raised dials and his mate had a H reg that did not. But I'm sure someone told me at the time that GT's still retained the raised dials in the later models.
Nice project there

, looks like you've got a lot of work though.

oh I love Cortina's. Used to have a '67 1500 GT column change auto in the mid '80's. thats gonna be so good when finished

My mate Jamie who I do the cruises with had a 1500 column auto back in the early 80's. It was a good car until he clipped a curb which pushed the front strut through the bonnet
That was a 2 door.

Funny how a lot of them suffered with that. One of my mates had one that was jacked up at the back, drove off a curb and the whole rear suspension came through the boot floor

As far as I know it is a genuine GT - the previous owner had it stored away for a few years, and never got round to doing anything much with it.
The log book also states it as a GT.
I have joined the MK2 Owners club - so hopefully they can check it for me.
Wolfman - if you do have any bits - pm me and let me know - I am looking for most things for it.

I quote from Graham Robsons book "the sporting Cortinas" (in the GT section)
"In October 1968,for the 1969 model year, the auxilary instruments were moved downwards from the crash roll to the main facia panel itself"
So that would make G reg cars 5 months of raised dials and 7 months of lowered, thus making all H reg cars "in dash"
Some thing for you to look into maybe Mart????
Got me looking @ Mk 2`s on Ebay now..
Did you know that they made a 2 door 1600E for export???(but only 2749 ever produced, and none ever officially sold in Britain)

I'll look into it Rich, thanks - I have asked the club members (MK2) so will see what they say.
Must admit - prefer the raised gauges - if the car is completely genuine then I will put it back to stock, as much as poss - if not, then I will modify it - not looks, but running gear - probably put in a pinto, 5sp, twin 40's - that sort of thing.

Pinto ,5spd sound sounds good. What about a more up to date motor, twin cam out of a Sierra, them old Pintos weigh a bit more i think, i wait to be corrected of course .
