Dash speaker options in Classic Mopars?
Moderator: Moderators
I am with you Ivor, the V8 will provide most of the sounds!! But sometimes there is nothing cooler than breezing along with the wind in your hair (or head in my case
), the top down (on the car
) and some decent sounds!!
They will always be drowned out by the engine hence I'm not going mad on a brilliant system (although my bro-in-law does have 'competition spec' ICE experience and threatened to do my car!) - it would be wasted, and expensive, and uneccessary in my car!
Latil, that's where I was planning to buy them from - they are the Custom Autosound ones. That's about the cheapest I found and the shipping is affordable. Anyone selling the DVC speakers uses theirs AFAIK. Actually I did also find the Chinese manufacturer by accident!

I belive that the kick panel area on most 70s mopars is very similar regardless of where made. i.e they may be farther apart as Ebod is wider than aussie Abod of the 70s (which is a fraction wider than A bod of the 60s) but that makes no odds
hows about these

two 6 inch mid base units in the kick panels with the tweeter set up in the center original position

Theres a guy on DC.com who put a pair of speakers in his doors, removed all the padding and card behind the door card, leaving just the vinyl covering the speaker. Looking at the door, you'd never know there was a speaker in there, just a thought.

I will be using other speakers.....but might as well have one in the dash as well, there is a space for one (and there aren't many spaces in my vert, no package tray for example), and it's not a bad place to have one - high up and close to the driver.
As mentioned, I may consider some of CA's underseat speakers, should get some decent bass, which is non-directional, and fit in a space that is unused without any hacking.

I have to report that I am very impressed with the dual voice coil speaker for the dash that I bought from "Garden Of Speedin'".
I was pushing it last night with Enter Sandman - Metallica with my 50w RMS head unit and I can tell you that little thing was moving some air.
I would say that the small amount of cutting required in the dash frame below it was well worth it.

Don't suppose you took any pics Dave of how much modding you had to do? If nothing else I don't want to be dropping filings down there now dash is back in......but I was tempted by the DVC and I guess I still am.
Actually I don't have a head unit yet
