Ben sent me an e-mail thanking everyone , as below;
Hello Matt H

I would just like to thank Darran for posting up this ‘help’ thread as a last resort to assist locating a General Lee for my Wedding. I would also like to thank the Moparuk community for their help and support.

You all wouldn’t believe the fiasco myself and Phill440 had.

To summise. I knew I wanted a GL as transport before the end of 2007. I had difficulty finding one until a member on the forum that I use sent me a link to the thread of phill440’s restoration project. Little did I know at the time that your member ‘charger’ of Manchester is mates with our member ‘MalcQV’. Various emails later and one morning I turn my phone on to an answerphone message from phill440. I promptly turned back to a 7 year old and returned his call once I’d composed myself. Lol.

That was that. Transport sorted. Anyhow, I kept in touch with phill and went to meet him and his General at a show near Reading 4 weeks before my wedding. All was great and if you’ve not met phill, he is a really nice, down to earth chap.

A week before my wedding I learnt that phills general had had something go awry in the engine dept. Something to do with Hydraulic lifters and pushrods – I’ll leave that to phill to explain to you all. Phills General was off the road, we couldn’t locate the parts, so I began searching for other Generals. Below is the list of my results following several hours of searching and a serious amount of phone calls.

1, Newport, south wales (Darran http://www.generalleehire.co.uk/ - located thru some random blokes yahoo photos of Tredegar house 2007 and baloons website - also registered on vwaudiforum as charger383)
2, Swindon ( http://www.ukgenerallee.co.uk/ top man is Phill - thank for being a star.)
3, Maidenhead (Thanks to Kishore Naib for answering his phone http://www.general-lee.co.uk/ current MOT faliure, i hope it gets sorted. Located through link to garage and resident mechanic)
4, Maidstone (was on graham norton)
5, Cambridge Pete wiseman (via star car and Derek Carter and Andy Craig of Classic American Magazine)
6, Cambridge James King (via a search on the cambridge news website http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/cn_n....asp?id=265319)
7, Ipswich - (via an out of the blue phone call recieved on Thursday morning, thank you for offering to drive from ipswich.)
8, Manchester (via star car)
9, Scotland (can't remember where i heard of this one from)
10, North Wales (Adrian - saw image on mopar gallery learnt location when reading 'help' thread)
11, Northern Ireland (via star car)
12, SOLIHULL located thru phill. How did i not know that there was a general less than 15 miles form where i live

Now, whilst i was searching on wednesday for Generals, i read on a website that there was thought only to be 12 chargers liveried up as the General in the UK. Well i've listed the 12 i know of. is there any more other than one I know of in Italy and one in Malta?

Once again a big thankyou to everyone that helped. The car went down very well. I am very happy.

Thank you all.

Ben

Note the "random phone call from Ipswich" was Malcolm Smith who I contacted when I saw the thread, but Phill had sorted things about the same time!
