It's not the motor you need to worry about, that axle won't last long under all that stress.

My vote is leave it be. If you want to sell it then advertise it in Aus or US, guys are spending money on them here and in Aus. If you keep it make some minor mods to give it a bit more wellie, but don't go nuts, neither your wallet or your bottle are going to be that big (if they were, then you would have already bought your ideal car).

Nothing wrong with having a car as a stepping stone, but why blow all your money on that when it's something else you really want?

I have never seen a factory correct X35 option Charger. If you were to restore one (i.e. that one) to absolutely original spec then it would be the rarest Mopar in UK.

its only the voice of reason if you can get the parts to do it.

to do that you't need to be sitting on a decent stash from previous basket cases or have a nice container load shipped in from Oz.

By my reckoning the 3 month date coding of parts on these cars is complete tosh. If any judge were to tell me a part was too far from date for an Aussie car I would tell him to go jump. The Aussie cars were using engine blocks cast a year or more before, and some other parts were just picked up out of old stock in the US. There are some peculiarities though. The washer bottles for instance although they look the same as the US ones don't actually have the chrysler badge on them at all. I would say the only parts that would need to be date coded correctly would be the locally produced parts (i.e. the hard to find ones!).

wasn't even contemplating the date codeing

just getting a full set of bits n bobs in decent (I want to show this car) condition is a nightmare.

remember the part you want to buy in Oz is always the last bleeding one in the world (or so i've been told) or was once kissed by Doug Chivas and is consequently 5 billion squillion bucks.

the market aint big enough to support anyone making anything new and the aussie never considerd working out what interchaged with US cars because the exchange rate was never in their favour until 6 months ago.

cudas challengers and Road runners are far too common and too heavy to go round corners.

least ya get disk brakes with an aussie car

My view is, that if it is not what you ultimately want, then keep that sporran shut even tighter than usual. Don't throw money at it, which is what WILL happen - BELIEVE me. Keep the car solid, maintain and service it, and enjoy it. Save yer pennies (och yae dinna wannae make a hastie poorchase mon  ) wait for the credit crunch to grip even tighter and then keep yer eyes peeled for a bargain.

I would strongly advise against chucking money at that car if it is not what you want. With the type of mods you mentioned in your first post, on a budget (and a tight one at that) kiss goodbye to £10 large at the very thin end of the wedge. You will get yourself a decent B Body for that money. Add on the money from the sale of your car and you have yourself 2 or 3 grands worth of go faster bits.

If you really want to get that 318 to make something go fast, stick it in a lawnmower.

Seriously though mate, buy what you want, it may take a little longer but it will be worth it. Money is hard earned and quickly squandered. ;) :)

You said that all wrong Clivey! It's more like 'Och ya dinny wanna mak a hastie purrrchase Min!' But being a Guff, I'll let it slide! :D

And with all you lot making jokes about us tight wad Scotch Gits, well with this so called reccesion going on I reccon you lot 'darn sarf' will be needing a lesson or two. :thumbright:

OK now, so when you drop that 10p Clivey the trick to getting it to hit you on the back of the head and not drop it in the drain comes from quickly contracting your abdominal muscles. This serves two purposes, one, to bend down rapidly and two to stop yourself being sick at the prospect of loosing your 10p! :thumbright: :D
