Dunc, John has a lot of cars there that have an emotional attachment to the owner, and most of them don't care about cost - they just want it done right.

Most of the owners of those cars are not speculators, they are enthusiasts (I hate that word, it sounds well Bananarama!)

Happened to a pal of mine, about 12 'E Types,' 3 Mk 2s, 4 Healey 3000s,
He turned out to be under insured
It happend years ago here.... A very well respected restoration company went up in flames!..... How many people have the right insurance for that?
Imagine spending 50k on a car, that has a market value of 20k. And it goes up in flames before you get it!

I tink it could be about peace of mind fella. You can pay big bucks for any old American car, and no matter how good it looks, you are never quite sure......

At least this way you know there are no nasties waiting to jump out and bite you. I think its great to see these cars having some money put into them. The 72 Charger is a 318 car and that is getting the works.

Hear what your sayin Clivey, but i`m with Dunc on this one, we were around when cars like a `72 318 Charger weren't worth a hat full of cold p i s s, so its seems crazy to pour thousands of £££££ into them to us, and lets face it even now they arn`t desirable, just sound like throwing a load of dollar into a polished turd to me :dontknow:

This is going to sound harsh  but the best way to get one is to let people spend the cash restoring one and then wait for hard times and when ,they sell and just bid them in the balls at the market value ;)

I respect what you are doing Clivey 8-) but i myself would never get a car restored,i would rather have several less than perfect cars that I'm not afraid to drive rather than one perfect car that I'm scared of the paint getting scratched etc.

Saying that though we all owe some respect to people like Clivey because without them there would be few good cars left. 8-)

If i won the Lotto then i would feel different about it.

Tony, what does 'afford' mean? I know loads of people who say they cannot 'afford' things, but they spend £50 a month on satellite TV, drink nearly every night of the week, smoke, the list goes on. If you really want to 'afford' something, there is always a way.

It is arguable whether I could 'afford' to do what I did with my Charger, but I found a way, and afford it I have. It hasnt been easy, and I could have got a decent extension on me house etc. but I wanted a Charger, and not some old banger holding together with sellotape and a prayer. I don't drink alcohol at all, I work hard, have a decent job (fortunately), no kids (yet), and a very understanding girlfreind who also has a good job too.

I have sacrificed quite a bit for the car to get done, and its all been worth it. No flash holidays etc. Also, what I did not do is get a mortgage I could no way afford, or buy a big flash daily.

It'll be a long long time before I got to the point where I had to sell the car to raise cash to keep a roof over my head. If it was any other way, I would have done something else very wrong in life.

Ray, all these cars were worth a hat full of cold urine at some point, but as I said earlier, I have not done this as an investment. If I wanted an investment I would not have done an American car. I gave my car to JC because I wanted a good car, professionally restored.

The way things look at the moment there is a more stable market for the stockers, and its the race cars and parts that are worth the hat full of cold urine. Anyone who has the money to buy and run one of those, has the money to build what they want in the first place. More often than not that is what they will do.

I am happy with my choice, and I'll enjoy the Bananarama! out of it when I am behind the wheel of it and I couldnt give two Bananarama! if anyone thinks I have wasted my money.

Its Disappointing to hear these comments about the gen 3 chargers. Not everybody has £15-30 thousand££££ to spend on a car. I brought mine after looking at all years makes models.

But as I said, my call was made by the money I could spend on a car.
Which in the short time I have owned it (2 years) It has doubled in value.
As things go I am more than happy with it.
Richard.
