challenger wrote:TYREMAN wrote:Yes it was a good show

however great as they are

i would not call the Vet or the Caddy a Muscle car

the Challenger like someone says, is half the price, and im suprised they did not feature a Mustang

still a great show

personally i reckon with the vet running 600+bhp and 0-60 in less than 4 secs its got right to be called a musle car , thats one hell of a quick road car

Im Just been an anorak mate
I would class the Vet as a Sports car,and the Caddy as a luxuary 4 door
I think of a American Muscle car as a Basic Midsize yank with a powerfull V8

Agree with Tony, would have made more sense for them to use a GT500 rather than the Caddy

Entertaining I agree, but I am getting a bit tired of all the staged stuff they do - but also jealous!!
Still they went to the well known "Bonneville Drag races" (I mean, they were THERE in person, did they have their eyes closed???

)
As for the new Challenger not being able to do a burnout - what?? Hammond says "it's an automatic"

You could burn them into the ground with that car.
10/10 for the idea, 5/10 for implementation..........

the Challenger looked awesome on the road

, commands a certain presence over the other 2

, specially on the twisties, the Caddy is pig ugly

, and the ‘vet just didn’t do it for me

Hopefully Fith Gear will get it Right and do one next year with the Challenger,Mustang, and Camaro

the Camaro with that ZR1 motor would be interesting

i agree the Challenger looks a lot better driven on the road than i thought it would,im starting to like it now

I recorded it on sky+ but for some reason it missed off the last couple of minutes

what I have seen it was good. The challenger is what I expected and although the Cadillac was but ugly it seemed to handle well, but the new Vette was a bit of an eye opener 600+bhp
Does anyone know when its repeated so I can catch the last few minutes

They had the Vauxhall version of it not so long ago on the show and Clarckson praised it and said it was a proper Musclecar.

I thought the Challenger looked fat and heavy. Confirming what my first impressions were.

The only one of any use was the Cadillac.
Proper car, proper ability, proper practicality.
Can't quite see the point of paying all that money for the Challenger and getting something that drives just like a 40 year old car, when for $9000 extra you can get something that is bang up to date, has four doors and is way faster.
Oh, and Dave (999), the Cad is Munro underneath. Where would GM be without Holden ..... ?

Sandy, I thought the new Challenger running gear was all new technology and should drive nicely...or have I missed something?
I agree the Cadillac has to be the best from a practical point of view but it has all the style and good looks of a slate hanger's nail bag.

To be honest, I don't know, Ivor. My assumption was that the Challenger was just yet another 15 year old Mercedes chassis carrying a body half a ton more than it was designed for. Maybe not.
If it is bang up to date, then it was even more disappointing that it seemed such a disappointment on the twisty roads.
Dunc, I think they were referring to the Cadillac's speed around the 'Ring, rather than ultimate top end. Didn't James May get the four door Bentley up to near enough 200mph out in Bahrain a couple of seasons ago ?
By the time the new Camaro comes out, the Challenger will be in proper production and Ford (may) have released their face lift Mustang. It will be interesting to see a proper 'ponycar' comparison. Both the Challenger and the Camaro seem to dwarf the Mustang, and, like in the good old/bad old days of the late nineties/early noughties, they will both (like the GM F-bodies then) prove difficult sales to women. As such, their appeal will be limited to the hasbeen's and wannabe's while Ford will keep on selling shedloads (by comparison) of Mustangs to youngsters and women.
But, way back in 1970, whodathunk that in 38 years a hemi Challenger would have been shown a clean pair of heals by a Cadillac ?
