Dave, there's a very similar car posted in the link third from top. It's a car for sale but it gives a VIN number. I'm guessing the vin number will have a code that lists the vinyl roof. Do you know a site that we can decode the VIN from ?

Scrap that. I found a VIN decoder but it does'nt help as the VIN and option codes are different things. Should have known that I suppose :lol:

the 500 was a terrible looking car just because of the rear window plug i love the shape etc of the normal charger

but have to agree that vinyl is orrible

I like that Barracuda :thumbright: better without that roof but i could live with it :thumbright: i like most cars with Vinyl roofs :thumbright: some look better with some look better without,depends on what the car and what color also make a difference.

OK GUYS, Firstly the 69 Charger 500 is my favourite Mopar/Dodge of all time.Why, because without the 500 you would never have had the Aero Cars, ie the Daytona, Superbird, Talledega, King Cobra and Mercury Spoilers. The 500 was the first EVER car to be wind tunnel tested and merged with aircraft design, what we call aerodynamics and wind drag factor to-day.
here is the low down on the vinyl roofs for 500 cars etc
The Vinyl roof was never an option on any 1969 Charger 500 or Daytona. Chrysler later offered its Dodge Dealers a "molding package", which consisted of the skinny, curved metal on the bottom edge of the fastback & "c" pillar area.
There was no link of SE Charger 500 or Daytona cars to vinyl roof from Creative or from Chrysler. You just could not order one. In fact, were any of those cars really ordered? Some say Chrysler just "guessed" at what NASCASR bodies-engines-trans-colors would sell, and just found the closest match when a dealer had an order from a customer. Look at several different articles written over the last 30 years for the Winged Warriors newsletter, regarding what was done to make a NASCAR street car. In the shortest possible explanation, all Charger 500 and Daytona street cars were "earmarked" Charger R/T cars. There was no "random choosing" for conversion! These earmarked cars were complete cars minus grills. Superbirds were not a converted car; they were built as Superbirds by Chrysler and finnished at Clairpoint.
SE Charger 500 and Charger Daytona were built as such as earmarked cars. There was no "upgrade" to SE from a regular Charger R/T. There was no time and no reason to do stuff like that with so few cars.
Also production figures for the 500 are very sketchy.
to put it into context the 68/69 Charger 500 REALLY is a BENCHMARK car and is mother mopars history go getter. Without it, Chrysler might not be here. It is an awfull important car, give it Respect.

I would love a C500, Monteverdi has/had a peach of an example - I remember seeing it at Goodwood.

usless bit of info .. there was a vinyl top simular to that offered like that on first generation chargers .. from memory
