I got my half shaft seals from Specialist Autoparts In Yoevil. Barry is very helpful and has loads of parts but also ships in from the states every friday. 01935426517

Sandy where would you recommend ordering the parts from? anywhere in the UK to get the bearings and seals + Diff Oil fast?

Cheers.
Sent you a PM, Tony :thumbright:

Now come on Tony, own up to Sandy that you were racing the old girl! ;)

Nice bit of technical on 9" Ford axles though, I'm enjoying this!

Same deal on my Ford 9inch axle, bearing let go on one side, it was pretty old though so fair wear & tear

The shaft should just pull out once the retaining plate is undone, well, by pull out I mean extract with a slide hammer. We don't need no stinking C clips. ;)

Great site on the Ford 9 http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm

Shoes seem to have quite a bit of life in them, I would clean them off & give em a good soaking in cheap thinners/gun wash.

I have cleaned shoes/pads before, but used trich or Genklene, not readily avaialble these days, due to environmental issues. Excellent degreasers though

I used to use a de-greaser from work that we are not allowed to use any more. Which means I can't liberate any for home any more.

But yes. I have cleaned up oily brake shoes before. Baking them in your mothers oven to burn off any oil left works well but can lead to a thick ear for filling the house with fumes as I once found out.

You can buy Brake cleaner in a can for about a fiver. Works well :thumbright:

I remember my mate putting his Triumph Bonneville crank cases in his mum's oven (with the Sunday roast) so we could get the main bearings out.

She was not best pleased.

Duckhams does not have the same ambiance as horseradish sauce...........
