22 initial seems a lot, i would of thought 18 to 20 would be more than enough.

I am finding 18 just enough. It seems to like 19 better but I am still playing with it.

Motors with long durations & tight LSAs will normally require a longer burn time @ idle , some motors run locked out timing , spark lead @ idle is not set in stone , the 605" loves 40* initial/35* total.

I was running 34 degrees initial (locked out).
Motor loved it - maximum rpm at idle at that setting.

I'm thinking of going the same route as you, as my cam has more dur than Adam's.
Do you need the starter saver.

More duration @ 50thou than Adams?
What kind of power are you expecting to make Mick?

Absolutely you need the starter saver, but you need to phase the distributor arm correctly or it will kick back if you take too much out.

Mick , if you don't want too use a starter saver then fit a switch , crank the motor & hit the switch , no kick back issues.
Switch will interupt the feed to MSD/ballast.

I ran both a retard and a switch. Worked well, until the car went on its roof............

Dave
The motor came with the cam and i know it's too big, when i took it to York the other week, with the 4.56 gear it was going through the lights at 7000 rpm and it was still pulling.
