that would be the normal failure in the open version of these diffs
the little gears fall to bits. mind i've heard they usually just pack up no drive what so ever
usually they have galled the shaft they run on and then just kinda die
available new (shaft and gears)
or
i have an open diff with no brakes, can't really tell if there is any play in it out of the car mind without taking off the back. its orginally out of the green charger that lived in lincoln (now in bits and sold)
can't remember if you can see in through the oil window both spider gears for the full diameter without having 2 other people to spin wheels back and forth i.e they may ride up the side gears a bit out of the way when you spin the wheel. yours should have 2 not 4 and they should be spaced onto the cross shaft with spring washers i think, but they can wear and snap as well .

don't expect any help.

only interested if you want 1000+ diffs but has pictures of the parts

Thanks for all the info Dave, thorough as usual
This is the second axle mintys had,the original died about three years ago.if this ones failing might have to bite the bullet and build up the 83/4 ,more expence.still got an open diff on the project charger here, could put that in as a stop gap.
