I will not be buying any more big engine V8's for the road.
With fuel prices seemingly going through the roof it is becoming very hard to justify the running costs.
I think this is also going to have a knock on effect when it comes to resale value's, with the high cost of restoration for both parts and labour it wont be long before it is simply uneconomical to restore this type of car as the market resale value will be less than the cost of restoration.

Hi mate,do not take this to heart my upcoming comments are meant to cheer you all up,and i beleve them!
Right i have seen comments like yours in the early 90s

i have it in black and white print from muscle car experts that the prices have hit there peak in the early 90s and fill fall.It did not turn out to be the case as we all know.
I do not claim to have a Cristal ball but prices will not fall,it may a little if you have a car that was once a 6 and made a V8 or a 318 made a 440
But your R/Ts and numbers matching are safe

don't believe me? then we are in the worst recession since the great depression and there are not many good cars for sale are there? and when they do come up for sale quality cars still seem to sell. Now with interst rates down the cars are better then money in the bank.
my Dad was always correct in that he used to say to me you should not own a Muscle car its a rich mans hobby only.I do not fully agree of course but i do agree its a rich Mans Hobby in that a lot of owners are well off enough to take the hit on petrol rises.i know collecters that are that well off that they can afford any rise in fuel and not bothered! however they hardly drive them anyway so no big deal fule rises!
I would love to be proved wrong so i can afford to buy a rare car in future, but the rich keep getting richer anf the poorer keep getting poorer! so i can not see a change on the horizon.

P.S i listened to these people in the early 90s and never forgiven them,i was going to buy a Muscle car when i was 20 was earning the best money i have ever earnt.
I could have got a good RT B bod for 10k o good 340 Duster for 4K or a Hemi for 22k with a loan.but did not have the Stones to do it! and thought i would lose money
the price rises of Mopar surprised everyone!
Then again i could be over compensating for getting it wrong in the 90s and not wanting to make the same mistake twice and end up now getting my fingers badly burnt!!!
Now where is that Cristal ball gone?

Dave the Vette is a great car,
my dads 99 Zo6 was just mental with Just a few mods was a fast as my Cuda on acceleration and just kept pulling.
He never ran it up the strip but low 12s were poss on a good stock one..... my dads as usual wasn't stock
Chipped, bolt on parts and cat removal really woke it up

And huge Brembo brake s, I've never been in a car that could stop so quickly.

Ah well the Z06 is a totally different animal to the car I have bought mate.
One local guy I have since met has a C6 Z06. As stock it has dry sump oiling, titanium rods, valves and exhaust. Produces 505HP. Weighs only 3100lbs helped by lightweight materials such as carbon fenders and even the use of balsa wood. Does 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 11.8 seconds at 122 mph. Top speed of not far off 200mph.
But 15mpg city and 24mpg highway fuel economy.
All this is completely stock remember. Your Mopar with that sort of quarter mile performance (forget about the top speed) would do 10mpg highway and not go around corners a fraction as well.
If I could afford a Z06 would have one but I am better off with a simple base model like the one I have bought because at least I have a chance of servicing it or fixing it if things go wrong with it.

Whats the 0-60 on yours then Dave? Have to say the Z06 figures are fantastic. How much would you need tom spend on a smeggy old mope to do that? If you jsut want to get into the 11's, its gotta be the cheapest way.v I'd have one (now).

A Z06 is about three times the price of a base model Corvette.
A quick wiki search says;
A composite of published performance numbers for the base-model coupé and convertible gives a 0-60 mph time of around 4.7 seconds, and a standing quarter-mile time of around 13.2 seconds at 109 mph (both times for a vehicle equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission).

Blimey they are impressive. Sub-5 second 0-60 times are in serious beef territory. Handling and braking as well. I am sort of getting tempted.

Well we will see what my 37K miler will do at the Nats just as it is. No mods what so ever.
I want a baseline performance figure in case I get tempted to start fiddling with it.

I bet you will be 'fiddling' with it as soon as you get the chance. Will be interesting to see the progress you make.

I would interested in a second hand ZO6..just for the performance and handling over the Cuda...and a darn sight more comfortable on a long journey

Maybe a low 14 o high 13 1/4
I know 9 people that have Vettes, tons of em over here,
but they are very sexy, sleek cars that go very fast look good and get great mileage,
and there is a ton of aftermarket stuff to get em to go even faster,
GM has alot of R&D on those cars, I like em but to many of my friends own em and ya know.................I love MOPARS,its in my blood ..............

Yeah I was thinking high 13s at best with my automatic trans.
It does not really matter what it runs as long as I have a baseline so I can see the effect of any improvements.
I may not bother trying to make it go faster though to be honest. It is fast enough as it is really.
