I just used a wooden spoon from the kitchen. Sat inside the car with the windows down and placed the end of the spoon on the edge of the drip rail trim which is just visible from inside the car. Then I gave the spoon a firm tap with the palm of my hand (a hammer might be better than your hand though) and worked my way along the trim till it popped off.
Well easy! And the only damage done was little marks on the spoon. Trim was fine and refitted perfectly with a positive click as it went back on.
It's a good idea to have someone hold the trim as you get to the end as it tends to ping off and you need to be quick if you want to catch it from inside the car.
Obviously any piece of soft wood should do the trick.
