Yeah I think I posted a link to the video earlier in the thread. Not seen the "after" photo of the wreck before though.
The driver must have pulled his seat belt nice and tight.

Found the first annoying bodge.

The nose cone on the plastic pig was looking rather dull compared to the rest of the paint which is in very good condition. So i decided to T-cut it a little to bring the shine up.

Oh dear!

Straight away I started to go through what i now see is a light coat of paint sprayed on to try and cover (unsuccessfully) the stone chips.

But never mind. It was coming off with just a bit of a rub with some 2000 grit paper.

Oh dear!

Half way down and a tide mark of a layer of undercoat shows up. The knacker must have shot some primer over the lower half and then tried to blend the top coat in. The paint layer is now also a lot thicker.

A few hours work (moved up to 1500 grit) and I have only got the bottom 6 inches left to do. But it was Sunday and the sun was shining so i left it at that so i could go out in it.

The original paint I have uncovered is t-cutting back up to a nice shine. But mister bodge has rubbed some coarse paper over the paint in some areas so there are some scratches on close inspection.

Also the stone chips are still there so all his efforts were pointless anyway.

Once I get back to the original paint I will fill the chips correctly with paint and clear and polish them flush. The danger is rubbing through to the plastic. I have already rubbed through in one small spot on the edge of the licence plate recession. :help:

make that three spots I have rubbed through.

Think I will get a quote to have the nose painted. It would be a lot easier.

Thought I would remove a front wheel and check how much meat is on the brake pads. I also wanted to have a closer inspection of the salt corrosion on the suspension parts.

Glad I did look.
The metal end of the brake flex pipe is very badly corroded. Probably a MOT failure or at the very least an advisory. So I need a couple of those before the MOT in Sept.

But worse was the brake pads. Plenty of meat on them. That was OK.
But on the ends where they slide they were very rusty and the pad on the back of the disc was completely rusted in place. Couldn't move it. I had to hammer it off.

These will actually clean/grease up OK. The discs look in pretty good shape too. I think they have been replaced at some point in the recent past. Pity they didn't have any grease handy at that time. I had better check all the brakes tonight before I venture out again.

Even rusted up these brakes are the best I have ever had on any car.
Handy when someone pulls over into the fast lane in front of you when you are doing ***mph. Don't tell the wife.

The only thing this car lacks is character.

It drives lovely. It is very fast. It looks good.

But it just a car if you know what I mean? The only thing it really has going for it is that there are not many around these parts. So at least it is a bit different.
