Now that is one of the best posts on here in ages in my opinion, what a fantastic job.

Now then Derek or Anton, youy can help me out here because I'm restoring the woodrim on Rosie's Alpine...what glue did you use Anton,? Woodwork is not my thing and I don't want the rim to spring off the metal base half way round a roundabout!
The pump don’t work coz the vandals took the handles.

if you are glueing the wood straight to flat metal then I use a two pack epoxy but with Dereks the metal is sandwiched between to bits os wood I used PVA.
If you take a photo of what you are doing I can advice you better.

Why not just cut down a pine toilet seat and cable tie it on ?
