I will do what you did next time and extend the windscreen border with a welded sheet metal border extension.

Reckon I was a bit ambitious last time I only used 2.5 or even 2 mm ?

Will have another go myself with more time and form it around the existing glass

Martin - it is horrible stuff to work with, you get quite nervous cutting it when you know the cost of each bit.

I got mine from here don`t know how they compare.

Screwfix seem quite reasonable on price,but don't seem to do anything bigger than this.

Just noticed Screwfix do a pair of 4mm sheets 610 x 1830 for £91.81, which seems pretty good. Not sure if 610mm will be deep enough though, and will it be as good as one of the better known brands like Lexan?

Just read the instructions and according to them, the Liteglaze that Screwfix sell is Acrylic not Polycarbonate.

Unless Screwfix have named the product wrongly and it should be Corotherm Flat which IS Polycarbonate.

Polycarbonate is nice to work with, cuts well, jigsaws no problem, edges clean up nicely with a file

Acrylic is no good, shatters, no safety properties....

That's what I thought Mark, however looking at it again I think they've just omitted to change the brand name, as they list both Acrylic and Polycarbonate and there is quite a price difference. Still a good price if it is Polycarbonate though.

I recently had the joy of doing something that could take the windscreen out of a car

there was a windscreen fella on site who was ready to cut and fit polycarbonate screen to any car

he gave the impression that it basically involved a big template drawn from an original screen Blueprint or traced carfully from a screen

and if it was a mastic and window rubber job
just fitting it and bending it in
if it was a bonded job it was more involved

my guess is this was thin stuff designed to allow you to drive at 40 mph home

seemingly its a get you home for windscreen breakages on rare or low production number cars which usually hve expensive insurance

i.e until they find who has the buck to form a proper laminated glass one one for you

For a supplier of Polycarbonate, try Amari Plastics (branches nationwide) . I get clear Acrylic from them, and they also do Polycarbonate & most plastic sheet materials.

Very easy to deal with.

If your going for a tag you will need 1/8 inch or thicker.

If you are good at making templates Ian shorock in Darwen is doing race polly and is very good on price, or even better when the car is finished send it to him to do from scratch.

friend of mine is a glazier, he used LEXAN with Marguard in his race truck

very easy to cut, bend, drill, shape
