Working at a theatre in London, And I was asked in a strong American female drawl,
" young man could you show me to the other side of the stage, its rather dark" she held out her hand, i took it and walked her across the stage area....
in the light on the otherside is realised it was Lauren Bacall,
There are many more but she is top trumps in a pack of famous people Ive met.

Or Liza Minelli when she told her VT engineer that i had a better understanding of what was going with her stage show, and then while on stage during rehersal asked for me by name to take over the VT op-ing for her song and dance routine then came backstage to thank me personally very genuine woman

Seem to meet most at the airport or on flights.
Sat next to Sting flying home from Shanghai to UK. I knew who he was staright away, just gave a customary nod. Didn't really start talking till dinner, when the salad cream pack he was opening exploded everywhere as he tried to tear it open. Passed him my napkin & said, 'Think your gonna need this,
' Real nice bloke, seemed down to earth to me.
Also sat next to Jackie Stewart flying from Ediburgh to Heathrow. Was more interested in discussing shotgun/skeet shooting than cars. Was very pleasant, but got the feeling he wouldn't suffer fools gladly.
Checked in at Heathrow with Amy Winehouse, she was a real nice girl, chatting on the phone at the time to her Dad, sad she went at an early age.
Sat at breakfast with Bobby Charlton & couple of other Man Utd players 2 or 3 times when I was working in Rio around 10 years back. Man Utd were taking part in South American cup, they had abandoned the FA Cup at the time, which was quite controversial then.
There's quite a few more, but these seem to be more memorable, wow how could I forget sitting on the next table to Pamela Anderson in New York

Just remembered a couple more....
Sat in restaurant next to Bob Hoskins in Berlin, was always a top actor in my opinion & always loved his films, especially 'The Long Good Friday'
I didn't get the chance to chat, another customer hello.
He was sat with 3 others people, the girl was an actor I had seen before in small bit parts on UK, no idea who the other 2 were.
I was absolutely gobsmacked as they all started to divvy the bill between the 4 & then starting discussions / arguments along the lines of, I didn't have a starter, I didn't drink... I felt like standing up & saying I will pay the bill if you lot stop arguing & Bananarama! off . . . .
Kiefer Sutherland, was around 15 years ago, so less of status to what he has now. Came strolling in the hotel bar in Mexico & demanding to be served straight away, like a right prick . . .
The best bit was when he said, 'Do you know who I am !' To which one of my workmates said . . . Yes, Your dads a better actor & less of a twat, the Barman's busy & he will get to you when its your turn you Toss er.
He stormed off

Roy Castle once asked me to fill in for his lighting engineer on his Roadshow while his usual guy was off a couple of weeks for the birth of his first child.
I have met and chatted to hundreds of "celebrities" in years gone by due to me line of work. Not so much these days. Most of them I don't really care for and don't even remember now. I care more about people like the nobel prize winning scientists, important politicians, authors, astronauts, etc I have met. People I respect like Harry Belafonte. More for his civil rights and humanitarian work than his singing I have to say.
I think having to put my hand down Henry Coopers tracksuit bottoms on a regular basis is probably my best claim to fame though. Getting kissed by Anita Harris made me blush like mad. Meeting Jenny Agutter fulfilled a boyhood fantasy.
Meeting Van Halen in their prime used to impress people in the early 80s. Playing pool with Brian Johnson (and loosing a quid in the process).
I struggle to remember these things to be honest. Seems a lifetime ago.
