agree with the crap steering, trying to do something about that as well
Not sure about 500 for shocks, don't think budget will run to that at present

With QA1s fitted to an otherwise stock (but working correctly) suspension you can make it handle very well indeed.

That'll be me starting to go through all pockets and checking down the back of the seat cushions then
I imagine that they would need to be fitted all round to get the best results

If you call "best results" keeping out of the ditches and trees then yes.
Well that is not quite true but you wouldn't get any real benift unless you fitted a full set of four. You can adjust understeer/oversteer by playing with the front to rear settings.
