Went out yesterday afternoon for a shakedown and see what it's like, Bananarama! me what a difference, shifts really smooth and positive, although I had got a shifter rebuild kit and new quick shift levers from Brewers, but the most dramatic change is the clutch pedal, when I first pushed it down I thought the friction plate wasn't even moving it was that light

The old box was in a bad way, almost all drivetrain vibration has disappeared, its super quiet too, got to adjust the pedal cos its far too high, a little bit of judder on take up but it'll prob settle down.

New Suregrip is well cool tho, but I was a little surprised when it still boiled the rears even in 2nd........... looks like I'll be pestering John S for his drag radials......... Can't wait to get it on the strip now :D

Course you can shagsy, it's got 3.23's in it which are a pretty tall, may still go with 3.55's if I think it's gonna get some track time, but the ratio is perfect for travelling across country to shows etc and still murders the tyres in Stony Stratford high street ;)

Nice Ade,GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK ON THE ROAD SO FAST ,I have those 3:23,s and I can still smoke em at will and a bit lazy out of the hole but the cruising at high speeds is so nice, i /we must bet be getting old I remember when 3:91,s or 4:10,s were the norm,I wish I had an O/D :( :thumbright:

Long time since I updated this thread but today I was starting workin on the 500" stroker that's hopefully goin in the Chally in the winter.
Taken me ages to summon up the enthusiasm but I got all the piston rings file-fitted today, pistons put onto rods and crank installed.
Should have the pistons and rods in by tomorrow afternoon and then I can shove the cam in.
Know what spurred me on?............. Blue putting an ad for a block hardware kit in the 'Parts' section :D

I'm gona drop that onto the 440 Mike and stick the big Demon on the stroker.
I'll try em both tho and see what works out best but talkin to Pete and a few others the Sixpack may not work as well as a big DP.
I tend to think they are a good street set up but not brilliant for the track.
Also toying with fuel injection, undecided on that one :read2:

THE SIXPACK ALWAYS GAVE ME 2 MORE MPH THAN THE DOUBLE PUMP. ET WISE THE TRACK WAS ALWAYS DAMP WHEN I FITTED THE SIXPACK,,

It was probably a bit anal but I checked ring gap in several bores to see if there was any discrepancies in bore size. Thankfully there wasn't any I could actually measure, also I thought it a good idea to share the scraping of the tight rings across all the bores, just didn't want to end up scoring a bore.
The measurement factor for the comp ring was bore X .0045" which equates to just over .019" so set them to a tight .020". 2nd ring was bore X .0035" and that gave me just over .015" so they were set to a tight .016".
Oil ring stack was a no brainer, but I remembered just what a pain in the ar5e Spirolox are
:D

Miles, Drew.........

I just like the idea of keeping the sixpack look, the air cleaner etc, but it does seem to work very well on big inch engines :read2:
