Welding on a axle brace

I was running 12 seconds flat in a 4000lb car and was still using the original 40 year old axle shafts and bearings the car came with in the 8.75. :thumbright:

I wouldn't just take it anywhere, take it to someone who is used to doing them. Or if you do it yourself, you need to do as Matt says. Tack it all the way round and then do a short weld, let it cool and move to the opposite side, then keep moving around, so the heat isn't concentrated all in one place.
Just because you've bought it, doesn't mean you have to use it.

And that's assuming the case is straight to start with, I can tell you from experience they ain't always.

Hi Will,

Bacca has a Jig, made from an 200mm RSJ!
Most axles he has checked have been out of true.
Need to check for straightness before and after welding?

Blank the ends and fill it full of ice/water and weld :thumbright:

It looks like your welding has improved over the restoration, looks like a top job, wish I could weld that good :thumbright:

I took mine to someone who knew what he was doing,,,payed him a lot of money,,,,,,i am now taking it to someone to put it right :thumbright: I have got to learn how to weld then i will be able to Bananarama! it up myself then put it right myself
