Oh well ... went to the track today for a quick test, at least it goes in a straight line

Engine and box are gonna have to come out so the flexplate bodge can be sorted properly

The " race convertor " that was described feels more like a 1500 rpm job which was held on with 1 or 2 bolts only

Very quick when on cam so a better convertor and plate properly fitted will liven it up

Well well well ... The previous owner had used the wrong bolts in the torque convertor. This threaded all the torque convertor lugs so he decided to spot weld the bolts in.

End result is the torque convertor was out of balance, bolts came out mid run and tried to eat the end of the camshaft seat, put the whole rotating assembly out of balance and broke a piston clean in half. Torque convertor in the bin, flex plate in the bin, block is ok

ALL FOR THE COST OF USING THE CORRECT 4 BOLTS !!

I take it a stongly written email/letter to the previous owner will be making its way over the pond!

Shame to see the damage caused for all of $20 worth of bolts!

Just prepping the new motor to go in ( 408, 4 bolt main, forged assy, Indy heads with BB offset rockers ;) )

Just got to fit new auxillary gaskets, retorque everything, remote filter, set valve lash, machine and fit flexplate ( cut down 727 to suit 904 ext ), fit new torque convertor, install engine, fuel lines and rewire.

Here`s the route of the original problem .. a flexplate bodge which caused the whole rotating assembly to be out of balance.

This was not a straight forward transplant. Had to cut out cross member completely and weld in a section of box to accomodate the new sump

New 4000 Coan stall convertor
New flexplate - 727 int balance cut down to suit 904 trans
Cut down and fit pushrods ( includes a trip to Yorkshire and a trip to London chasing parts ).

Finished installing 7 pm Saturday

Took it to track for a shakedown on Sunday and stalled it on the line, nursed it away and just plodded down the track ... still managed a 113 mph so it should run 10`s once I sort the niggles out ... reckon carb is too small ??

This week : make some proper headers + fit Demon 850 ready for the Nats ;)
