I found the brakes very lacking on that 'Bee.

I had a similar setup on my Challenger. Strange MC. 4-to-2 stud adaptor. Adjustable push rod. With the larger mopar discs, slider calipers, and 11" drums.

The drums were too big for the discs. 10" would have been better.

Even so my Challenger stopped a lot better than that 'Bee does.

Sorry Pete. :D

I have yet to check but I imagine it has the same M/C adapter that Dave mentions.

The brakes are fine - just ask Tom Hill when his brake lights failed down a Tewin country land at speed  Can lock the fronts without the rear 11" Drums locking up. It is very well balanced.

It has the 11 1/2" Cordoba discs and now the pads are bedded in they are fine and have a good level of "feel".

Mind you I have size 12 feet and Dave probably has size 8 mincers............ ;)

This is not a "Racing" thickness hood - it is really solid; probably goes about 30Kg.........quite hard at full stretch.....putting it back on ACCURATELY is the hard part...........
I agree, mega heavy on my coronet fitting it on its own, I also have a lightweight race jobby thats only a fraction of the weight, but the carb almost touches it so use the full fat bonnet

Lovely car Pete ...had a good look at Duxford few weeks ago
Following behind you can really see the rear suspension working to harness the Grunt that gorgeous Car has
Chirping the tires up through the box driving normally  :thumbright:

Yes.
A blanket is an essential item to carry with you all the times.

Cover the roof with the blanket (and hope it does not blow off.... ).
Undo the hood pins.
Pick the blanket off the floor, and place it on the roof again............
Stand at the front of the car and grab the scoop with one hand.
Lift off the pins, grab the front of the hood with your other hand and place the hood on the blanket from the side of the car.
Try not to beat your forehead to death on the hood if you get in the car to start it.
Try not to drive off with the hood still on the roof of the car
Simples........ ;)
I thought there must be a technique. I'll be looking out for a nice blanket for mine then, thanks for the tip :thumbright: (luckily mine's an easy-ish one man lift as it's a Dale race hood)

Same discs I had then. Although they are 11-3/4" diameter.

Maybe they just hadn't bedded in yet or were cold when I tried them. ;)

Size 11s on the feet Pete. :P

I'll keep the hood if that is OK, Steve ;)
In fairness the brakes have bedded in and are much improved.

I have just found a couple of faults with the Dizzy - the cap locking bracket screws were fouling on the plate and causing it to bind; and it was not seating in the block squarely. That's Mallory for you

I have now set it up with 25 degrees initial timing (I am using a starter saver) and about 31 degrees all in for now.

It has cleaned up the emissions no end, it runs cooler and idles at 700rpm in gear.

I managed to back the idle mixture screws a 1/4 turn, but it will not take any less fuel, but at least it is now adjustable.

It drives beautifully and is very docile as long as you are in high gear and below 3000rpm.............

It also withstands the ultimate challenge- Stationary in 1st and then floor it to the metal.....It rises up about 6 inches at the rear and the world dissapears in a cloud of tyresmoke - but the motor does not bog or cut out!!

Runs like a stabbed Rat on Coke!

RESULT!

Thanks to Dave and Blue for all their assistance :read2: :thumbright:

"Stabbed rat on coke"............ new one on me, at least it sounds aggressive tho, better than say "more urgent than a budgie on acid", that's not half as hard :D

Pete...thats stunning mate! I love youre attention to detail with this....plain and simple, uncluttered and functional....very nice! As its such an 'exotic' setup, have you considered sticking the pics on a sticky as a reference for how to set up the linkages etc?? The pics are very clear and shame for the info to just get lost on a thread :read2:

Its not quite a C body, or even a sedan, but it I could be persuaded.... :D :D :D

Cheers Steve

Steve, the set up is completely non-standard so would not be much use as a Sticky to most Six pack / Six bbl owners......hence me putting it up as a workshop thread.

Gotcha Pete, wonder how many, if any, other setups like this!! I could quite easily put that on a block of wood and have it as an ornament in my house!! Is fantastic....could you imagine going into a dealership and ordering the stock version of these babies on a new car??!!!

Thanks for posting Pete, and one day I will talk you through how I cleaned the main jets on my carb.... Dont think you are ready for it yet but you will get there, eventually! :D :D

Cheers Steve
